We,as a family used to rent the series from the Video shop. We looked forward to it. Now my husband has passed on and I'd love to get in memory of him. He always wanted the whole series. It was a wholesome family movie. I like the differences in each charecter.
This is a great family show. My children and I watch a short episode together each week. This gives them lessons in values as well as a historic view of the past. My children identify with the kids in the program, love the horses and the frontier fighting so they are not realizing they are learnign while watching.
Five Mile Creek is one of my family's favorite series. We first got it on vhs when our girls were about 10. They wore out those videos and we couldn't find them anywhere for the longest time as they were out of print. It's hard to find good family fare these days, but Disney did it again and put them back in print. The story line is actually borrowed from a Louis L'amour book The Cherokee Trail, with some changes. It takes place in the Australian outback as a group of Australians and displaced Americans try their hand at starting up a stagecoach line and station during the 1860s Australian Gold Rush. It begins with Maggie Scott, an American that sails to New South Wales with her daughter, Hannah, to meet her husband who was hopefully making their fortune in the gold fields. Jonathan Frakes, of Star Trek Next Generation fame, is her husband, and when she and Hannah go ashore he isn't there to meet them as planned. And so it all begins, a story that your whole family will want to escape to over and over. Nicole Kidman got her career started in this series, though you don't see her till the second season, I believe. The show is filmed on location, too.
It was a joy to watch. I was sick all one weekend and I watched the entire dvd set. It is a great family show and I love seeing the Australian scenery. I will watch it again. I really hope they come out with the other seasons because I will be buying them also. And I would like to see Nicole Kidman as a young actress in this series. I recommend it.
we like it because there is nothing we wouldnt like to see as far as bad scenes, music or words we bought it because we have it on tape and wanted the dvd
I'm glad to see this series finally come out out on dvd. Seller made my search a whole lot easier and a lot less expencive than ordering from a catalog. Thank you.
I have often thought of the 5-Mile Creek series ... When our girls were young (late elementary age) we valued our Friday nights together. I was a stay-at-home mom - on Friday I would stop at the video store to pick up a movie the whole family could enjoy. Came upon this series - we all liked the first video so much we continued to get the next in the series every Friday - along with either a pizza or take-out fish and chips. Dad would come home from work and we'd settle in for our family movie night.
I am new at eBay shopping - decided I would pursue my quest to find this series. I couldn't remember the exact title, but I remembered it was "creek" and it was filmed in Australia. I believe I found it under Australian movies (or something like that). There it was ...5-Mile Creek!
When I ordered the set, I told my girls (now 30 and 32). They were delighted with the memories of our Friday nights and couldn't wait to see the shows again. Needless to say this was one of my very best eBay purchases ever!!! Soon I will order the 2nd series and as many as there are available to complete the set. This will be a family treasure for us all.
Thank you for being the instrument for finding this!!!
