Pros:
Brilliant melding of music and image into a new form of animated art.

Cons:
Uneven. Some segments reek of 1930s attitudes.

After my dinner tonight, I settled down for a cozy evening at home, here at Chateau Maine, accompanied by my delightful feline companion, Patrick Flanagan. Patrick, however, had other plans for the evening and soon left for a benefit concert at the Hollywood Bowl. I had several cups of coffee, to which I added some of my new Special K cereal additive and soon I was bursting with energy and that Martha Stewart drive for improved domestic order. Off I headed for the front lawn to completely rewire the Christmas display. I had grown tired of the Babes in Toyland theme and decided to disassemble..

  MUSIC OF THE THIRD KIND
Review created: 11/16/00
by: artbyjude -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
ART, IMAGINATION, SOUND

Cons:
the narration makes me fidget

I watched this film again, for the fourth time in my life, just last night, although I have seen parts of it on many occasions. This time, there was a dimension to it that I had not previously appreciated, and that is (or was) it's historical vision. Love or hate Walt Disney, you have to admire his creativity! For an animated film of this nature to be produced in 1939 (It was released in 1940) is nothing short of amazing. PLOT OR LACK OF IT FANTASIA (the original) does not have a plot. That in itself deviates from anything done up to that point. The movie is a series of 8 classical music...

Pros:
Fun...Very Imaginative...Must of Took Forever..Matches with the Lost Highway

Cons:
No Plot...Scary...Poltically incorrect

Before MTV...We had Disney to thank for the concept of "music video" when they released "Fantasia". Although the movie is a little "politically incorrect", it still manages to spread its magic and imagination along with timeless scores made by composers Bach, Schubert, Stravinsky and many others. Plot Fantasia does have a lack of plot, but it manages to put images to many compositions we are familiar with. From the creation of the world, to the Demon that lives on top of some mountain. The most timeless piece is the sorcerer s apprentice, which will always hold the image of Mickey and the...

Fantasia Will Amaze-Ya!!!! ...What A Stupid Title
Review created: 08/23/01
by: the_musician -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Features some of the best in animation, music, and the mixing of the two

Cons:
Sometimes the animation doesn't live up to the music, no Mozart

Man, Thursday night television sucks. I was flipping through channels and my options were two seriously unfunny comedians hosting the 2001 Brit Awards, or one of those bad crime dramas that are going to be canceled in three weeks. I was pondering my options when I remembered that, with my birth in appreciating classical music being rather recent, I haven't seen good ol' Walt Disney's Fantasia for about eight years. So, doing the only logical thing while continuing to watch the tube, I put on the movie. The aspect that most people don't understand about Fantasia is that the music is just as...

  Fantasia (1940)
Review created: 08/22/00
by: BrianKoller -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
soundtrack, ambition and originality of concept

Cons:
slow or bleak passages, sometimes stolid, not for little kids

Fantasia was the fourth feature length animated film ever made, following Disney's own Snow White and Pinocchio, and Fleischer Studio's Gulliver's Travels. It was also the second animated feature that year for Disney's busy cartoonists, as Pinocchio had been released in February of 1940. Snow White, Pinocchio, and Disney's next classic, Dumbo (1941) were all better than Fantasia. But Fantasia is generally the more highly regarded film today. While this assessment is not correct, it is understandable. Fantasia does have some advantages over its fraternal Disney rivals. The score, featuring...
