I like all of Tom Cruises' movies. I have a few, and want to keep collecting them. "Eyes Wide Shut" makes one think of life in general. It is a deep suspenseful movie that you have to pay attention to in order to keep up with it. Nicole plays an excellent role also. Very good movie. Two thumbs-up.

I think I Have Speck of Sex in My Eye

Pros:
It had a thought provoking story line

Cons:
The pace was so slow it lulls you into a dream state

Last night in the dark confines of my living room I turned on the last film directed by the great Stanley Kubrick. Mr. Kubrick made so many other fine films such as 2001 Space Odyssey that I wonder why he tried to make the 20001 Sexual Odyssey on his way out. The film stars the sexy Nicole Kidman. You know the way things will be progressing from the first clip of her stripping off her clothes. One question why is it we see Nicole Kidman in several nude scenes and yet Tom cruise is never seen in full frontal nudity? Doesn t want to shatter his image I suppose, or lack of one. (Little male...

Does The Title of This Movie Make Sense to Anyone?

Pros:
Nicole Kidman.

Cons:
Script lacked cohesion; there was no real story here.

I remember when the whispers began about Eyes Wide Shut, a supposedly incredibly erotic and sensual dramatic film staring the husband and wife team of Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman. Rumors were ripe that despite being married, there was no chemistry between the two, that they had to be coached through the scenes of the movie that called for intimacy, and some modicum of passionate discourse between them. Not too long after the move hit the box office, the power couple did split citing career and scheduling conflicts as the reason. Rumors aside, Eyes Wide Shut in which the two did seem to have..

Sex and Dreaming in NYC: Eyes Wide Shut (1999)
Review created: 12/04/02

Pros:
one of the best films of the 1990s

Cons:
most people still don't realize this.

(Please note: this review was mostly written in 1999, though never before submitted to epinions. I've made a few changes and revisions, but a good deal of it comes from over three years ago (i.e. mention of Kubrick's 'recent' passing, etc.) Try not to hold it against me.) For over two years now we've been hearing all about Stanley Kubrick's Eyes Wide Shut. Rumors, mostly untrue, have abounded: Tom and Nicole are playing sex therapists, Tom shoots heroin and dons a dress, it's all one big group sex-fest. And wise man that he was, Kubrick let them talk. And now, sadly, Kubrick has passed on,...

Is This a Dream or Fantasy? Kubrick Presents His Final Film
Review created: 10/24/03

Pros:
An Excellent Film from Kubrick with Excellent Performances from Cruise & Kidman.

Cons:
Incomplete In Some Spots & Chemistry Between Cruise & Kidman Lacks Spark.

Throughout the history of films, every filmmaker cites another filmmaker as an influential force in cinema. Whether its Orson Welles, Akira Kurosawa, Elia Kazan, and George Cukor to more recent big-time directors like Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, and Quentin Tarantino. Then, there's one director many filmmakers in the past 30 years have cited as a seminal figure in film and has been imitated one way or another than anyone in film. Many consider him the ultimate auteur director while he has reputation of being a control freak, perfectionist, recluse, and all sorts of things which some of.

Eyes Wide Shut: And no dream is ever just a dream
Review created: 03/05/01
by: telynor-- a member of Epinions and Advisor in Movies

Pros:
Moody, introspective piece, good if you want to think about it for a while.

Cons:
Most viewer will be left saying 'what?' If you're looking for titillation, don't bother.

This is a film about a blind man. Not in terms of actual vision, he can see as well as the rest of us, his eyes are normal, but he cannot perceive the world around him. Dr. Bill Harford can diagnose the ill, move through life doing the right thing, making social contact with old friends and his patients, but he is a sleepwalker. Pity he can't see his wife either. People were troubled, titillated and disturbed by this film when it was released. The frank and graphic depictions of sex bothered a great many, who derided the film as pornographic. Inspired by the novella "Traumenovelle" ...
