With Jim Carrey and Jennifer Aniston both declining to reprise their roles for the sequel to Bruce Almighty. Returning Director Tom Shadyac goes in a different direction by paired up Steve Carell (The 40 Year Old Virgin) with Morgan Freeman. (Both Freeman and Carell are reprising their roles from Bruce Almighty).
Evan Almighty put a delightful twist into established biblical scripture. It was also good to see Shadyac remain true to scripture (With God (Freeman) holding true to his promise never to flood the world again) but at the same time, he allows his audience the opportunity to expand their personal views on the concepts of prayer and making a difference in the lives of others.
God (Freeman) mentioned the following:
“If someone prays for patience, you think God gives them patience? Or does he give them the opportunity to be patient? If he prayed for courage, does God give him courage, or does he give him opportunities to be courageous? If someone prayed for the family to be closer, do you think God zaps them with warm fuzzy feelings, or does he give them opportunities to love each other?”
Lastly, Evan's ARK does play a significant role, other than being the film’s signature vessel. A-R-K is the acronym for a single Act of Random Kindness…which is the first step that one must take in order to make a difference in the lives of others.
Evan Almighty isn't really a sequel to Bruce Almighty although they share characters (God played by Morgan Freeman, and Evan Baxter played by Steve Carrell).
This movie doesn't have as many funny moments as Bruce Almighty but Steve Carrell's humor is also a different style than Jim Carrey (who played Bruce in Bruce Almighty). The script is well suited for Carrell.
This is a great family movie with less crude humor as Bruce Almighty.
It has a good message about family, perseverance, and patience.
This isn't a retelling of the Noah story - it's more of a relation.
Don't let the biblical theme scare you away.
I'd recommend not reading any of the other reviews unless you want some spoilers.
This is a movie which I thoroughly enjoyed. Not only was it funny, it's a movie I do not have to worry about children of any age watching. Happy to add it to the family library. It would be great for any Christian family.
This is a really good family movie!!! Way better than the first (Bruce Almighty)... Steve Carell is awesome!! I like that it had many parallels from the Bible that were very accurate! Really good movie! ** Highly Recommend! **
I'm on the fence about this one. There were a few parts that cracked me up. Mostly, I found the movie dull, and uninteresting. I needed more humor. More "God" scenes. I thought the movie would be more similiar to Bruce Almighty, I was disappointed there.
Was hesitant about purchasing this movie, after seeing the first one, but am so glad that I did. It's well written, humorous and family friendly. There is a cute story and the family is all around sweet. This is a nice story about doing the right thing.
I bought this movie because I liked it even better than Bruce Almighty! Much more family friendly! It was in excellent condition and I got it very quickly. I've been very happy with the items I've ordered from this seller.
If you liked Bruce Almighty you'll love this movie. I think I laughed harder watching this movie. Steve Carell has to be insane to be able to act as crazy as he can. One great actor. An excellent family movie, although I'm an adult and I sometimes watch it for a kick at night alone...
Very good family movie. It helps show that hard work, a close family, and faith, not money, are what is important. The animals were a big hit with our 10 year old.
Our family loves this movie!!We laughed sooo hard!We would recomend this movie with two thumbs up!!We liked it because my 3 year old could watch it,my 6 year old loved all the animals!I loved that it shows a family that loves each other and worked together!
Steve Carell is annoying on THE OFFICE, but cute in this film. His Noah beard and make up were great and realistic. I love Lauren Graham on THE GILMORE GIRLS. Her part is small in this movie as Steve gets to shine and show his talents. The ark was very realistic. The flood looked fake, but OK. Funny movie with a lesson for all man kind. Morgan Freeman was better on BRUCE ALMIGHTY.
I bought this as a gift for my nephew, so I don't personally have any likes/dislikes about the movie. He seems to have enjoyed the product quite well though.
I really liked this movie because it has so much humor in it. Steve Carell plays an excellent Noah, and is hilarious during the movie in thinking he's going crazy. The different "surprises" he has to deal with every day are very funny and the way he deals with the "surprises" is funny and he does it in a good, realistic way. I had to buy it because it's a very refreshing movie, makes me laugh, and gives my mood a lift!
Very Good movie. I highly recommend and bought it at a good price. The movie is a very good family movie. We had lots of laught. I watched it with grandchildren and they also love it. In fact, we've watched it several times!
it was going to be for christmas, but never got it... i think it sure wouldve been funny!!! but never got to see it! who knows ,maybe eventually the seller will feel bad, and send it to me! my kids really want to see it!
I always question religious type movies as we all have our own religion. This movie is great as it doesn't push any affiliation. This movie does make us think of where we are currently in our personal lives. What is important to us and how can we take charge of what our destination or goal is. The producers hit the sub-conscious and make us stop and think about what is important. We had watched this movie as a family and enjoyed it so much that we ended up purchasing it. I would most definitly recommend watching it at least once.
Me and my children love this movie. So, I purchased it so we can watch it as a family. Too bad the seller never sent me the dvd after I sent the money in a timely manner.
I have to admit a comment in the movie I Loved. God telling Evan's Wife...“If someone prays for patience, you think God gives them patience? Or does he give them the opportunity to be patient? If he prayed for courage, does God give him courage, or does he give him opportunities to be courageous? If someone prayed for the family to be closer, do you think God zaps them with warm fuzzy feelings, or does he give them opportunities to love each other?” Morgan Freeman again Plays his "Character" Well. Evan Baxter says goodbye to the news-anchoring business in favor of his job as a naive freshman congressman. When God orders him to build an ark and prepare for an impending inundation, Evan sheepishly takes on the task (it's hard to turn down the job when your hair and beard grow to Old Testament lengths and God wants you to walk around in sackcloth. Good Movie for the entire family!
My children saw the movie while on vacation in Georgia, so while browsing ebay, I noticed the movie was available and bought it. I had a nice number of people to choose from. The movie is about believing even without seeing. My children watch it often because it is funny and easy to follow along and I like it because I can be in another room busy and know that they are watching a quality well-written movie that doesn't involve guns and swearing and general inappropriate materials.
