There was not a catagory for this particular printer, but this was the closest to it. What I am reviewing is the upgrade for '07.
It is the Epson Picture Mate personal photo lab "Dash" or "Flash" series.
I have the "Flash" model, which the only difference that i can tell between the Flash and Dash is that the Flash lets you burn, yes, burn your photos onto your cds and dvds right there in the printer. Insert disk in tray that slides out from bottom side of printer and presto.... how cool is that!!!!
both models come with enough paper and a photo cartridge for about 20 4x6 photos. you can buy additional that comes with 150 sheets of glossy paper and cartridge for about $30-$40. (but that is 150 sheet of glossy paper)
pictures come out just as well, or i think better than they do at 1hour drop offs!
you can make U.S. passports, black and white, 3x3, various portrait packages, (think school picture packages) Take your child to your favorite spot and snap their picture and make your own package that you want without spending a fortune on bad school photos!!!
Also prints, wallet size, mini wallet jumbo wallet, border or borderless, sepia and proof sheets and many more.
I love this printer!!! Two thumbs up!!! I use my new HP camera with this printer. You can also customize your pictures with captions, sayings, add cartoon bubbles, princess crowns, corner borders, etc. too, too many options to list. Excellent and well worth the money.

I love the fact that the printer is portable and print excellent photos. I purchased the printer for a family function, I wanted to take pictures of everyone to take home as a keepsake.

Epson PictureMate/ Deluxe PictureMate 500 "personal photo lab" I compared almost all the home photo printers in the $200-$400 range. Some of the criteria I used: cost, quality of the prints, how fast the ink dried, haw fast it prints, how long does the cartridge last, the viewer/selector ease-of-use, etc... Epson PictureMate 500 came up on top for me; non complicated, easy to put together and use, high quality fast drying prints, no smudging after it dries and more. It is one of the handiest gadgets I ever bought and wondered why in the world I did not buy it sooner. Excellent performance....
