Awesome cast Jude Law, Joseph Fiennes, Ed Harris, Rachel Weisz, Bob Hoskins.
A sad movie about the atrocities of war. Movie takes place during WWII. The cinematography does a great job at depicting the bleakness of war. makes a great addition to any DVD collection.
Amazing movie depicting the brutality of WW2 on the Russian front... Lots of epic shots of amazing battles....really leaves you saying wow.... I can't believe that happened....
Great historical WW11 hero defending russia from the nazis. Plot is interesting to hold your attention with great snipping action. Germany sends its best sniper to take out the young hunter with a wonderful climax.
Purchased this movie because Jude Law starred in it. It was not the type role I like to see him play. It was just a movie to pass the time away if you don't have anything else to do. Seemed to be a low budget movie although Ed Harris always adds to any movie which is the upside. Don't look at this movie if you don't like seeing casualties of war. Very gruesome. Think it was a true story but unbelievable. Entertaining at a low level.
Very little in the way of war flicks - or novels - have dealt with WWII on the Eastern Front, i.e., between Germany and the USSR. The centerpiece of that brutal war was the battle of Stalingrad, which this movie depicts. The casting is great, the screenplay good, the acting superlative.
Enemy absorbs the viewer and encapsulates with the realism of state of the art special effects combined with an excellent cast!!!! Allow yourself to be introduced to a true russian hero!!!
If you are into World WarII,Then this is a excelent movie for you. This is a good drama and action movie. I highly recommend it for you.(SERIUS MOVIE) Base on a true movie event...
It's hard to duplicate real history, but I think this movie comes very close. The actors are fantastic and there is really nothing that I disliked about it.It's a great movie and I would recomend it highly!
A superb rendering about the futility of war. What the Russians went through to defeat Hitler's armies was astounding and heart-breaking. Millions died. The hero is a Russian sniper whose aim is so deadly that the Germans send in their top sniper to take him out. The suspense can be cut with a knife, as can the mud they fought in. Highly recommended.
A must have for anyone who enjoys weapons and shooting with accuracy. This movie deals with two of the best snipers trying to outwit each other. Great movie, great historical accuracy.
This was the best movie I have seen in a long time. I borrowed this movie from a friend, and I like it so much the very next day I serched on ebay for a copy to add to my collection. If you are any kind of movie buff you will definitely enjoy this one.
I loved how this movie protrays a man who is nothing in the beginning of the movie and then becomes such an object of awe and wonder. The character progression was great in this movie and you really got to know several of the main characters. I would watch this movie several more times and will probably buy it.
I have been looking for this movie for the last few years and was not able to find it anywhere. This had great special features and is perfect for someone who loves war movies.
"Enemy at the Gates" is a very interesting movie about the Battle of Stalingrad. The German forces have invaded The Soviet Union and every Soviet resource is utilized to repell them in this historic battle. Most of the movie is based on fact and is told from the Soviet viewpoint - which adds to the movie's appeal. Very expansive scenes and outstanding special effects. I'd suggest that this be watched at about the same time as the movie "Stalingrad" to obtain the maximum enjoyment. Not recommended for children. This particular version is a 2001 issue in a North American DVD format. Please note that my reviews are written with no knowledge of the potential seller.
Gives a unique view of the Russian mindset during WWII. We are given insight to the lack of acceptance by the Russian authority for any failure by the commanders or troops to acheive any goal, no matter how unrealistic. A story of a hero that is used to motivate those fighting.
I bought it for my boyfriend, who had been looking around for it, like at Walmart, or anyplace he thought he may find it. Had no luck, so I got on Ebay, found it, and had it in a matter of minutes! So easy to just sit in front of a computer & shop!. I didn't care too much for the movie, but war stuff is not my thing. He loved it!
A GAME OF CAT AND MOUSE. WHO IS BETTER...... THE TEACHER OF THE PUPIL? THE STRUGGLES OF WAR AND FRIENDSHIP. ITS ALL THERE...................ITS A DAMN GOOD MOVIE!

Are We The Enemy At Our Own Gate?

Pros: Mesmerizing cinematography that tries not to glamorize killing -
Cons: The faces are too clean and the eyes too clear. War dulls everything -
THE CAST Joseph Fines plays Political Officer 2nd Class Danilov. Danilov [we never learn if that is his given or family name] breaks the common soldiers common vow he volunteers. In that act he becomes the man who is henceforth charged with inspiring the Russian forces. Their morale in his making during the battle for Stalingrad. Jude Law plays Vassili Zaitsev. Vassili is a simple shepherd from the Urals. A simple shepherd who, with 5 well-aimed rounds from a rifle, becomes a Russian inspiration. He is the sniper of whom songs are sung and letters written. He is soon a hero of the Motherland,.

Enemy at the Gates: Welcome to Hell

Pros: Doesn't make war pretty or heroic or noble.
Cons: Will be too intense for most viewers.
This is not an easy film to watch. It is bleak, it is awful, grimy, and bestial. It all really happened too. The time is 1942, the Germans have pressed deep into the Soviet Union, and there is one last defense between them and the oil fields of the Caspian Sea. That's Stalingrad. If Stalingrad falls, the Germans will win the war. Period. Remember all those films and tv series about the Nazis, and you'd hear someone joke about being sent to the Eastern Front? My friends, what you see in this film is the Eastern Front, and most soldiers knew that to be sent to the east was to die. This movie...

Enemy at the Gates - Woe is Everything

Pros: Amazing true story
Cons: made into a bad movie
"Enemy at the Gates" is based on the true story of Vassili Zaitsev, an uneducated, orphaned shepherd from the Urals, and a Russian soldier in WWII. Zaitsev was elevated to the status of icon during the war due both to his skill as a sniper and a relentless media campaign to use him to bolster morale. The movie takes place in Stalingrad, where fierce fighting between the Russians and Germans has turned much of the city to rubble. The movie arrives at the battle scene with what is either a blatant rip-off of "Saving Private Ryan", a sincere flattery(as in: imitation) or an amazing coincidence...
