If you enjoy any form of motor sports you will enjoy this movie. If not, the cheesy narration and over the top production will probably take a lot of entertainment out of the movie for you. If words like big lift cam or tapered Renthal bars mean anything to you, than definitely check it out.
If you are into off-road this video is for you!Get the inside look at the baja 1000 and follow some the worlds greatest racers in trucks, buggies,on motorcycles and atv's. This dvd has some of the best footage i have ever seen!Even non-race fans will be entertained by the wide open camera view's and the very personal interview's showing the drivers love and hate relationship with baja.
Dana Brown is fast becoming a premier documentary filmmaker-which shouldn't be too surprising-it's almost a family tradition. I love this film-have watched it many times and have placed it on my dvd bookshelf-right next to Dana Brown's Step Into Liquid documentary about surfers and surfing. He has a very good way with subjects that interest him. And for the viewer, it is often like taking a learning vacation; sit back and enjoy the world outside your door through the eyes of a master documentary filmmaker.
What can I say? The best movie ever made about the sport of off road racing? How about the only movie ever made about off road racing? Going back more than a few years one could mention "Little Fauss And Big Halsey" or perhaps "On Any Sunday I or II" but those movies while great in there own right are mostly buddy movies with bikes, admittedly "OAS" is the standard to which all others must be judged...or at least untill "Dust To Glory" hits your screen!
This movie captures the real passion, thrills and impact Baja has on those that try and endure it, not conquer but endure...and truely the story in a story about Mouse McCoy is a terrific visualization of that challenge. But I digress....
The movie is realized from the viewpoint of the racers, pit crews and spectators, Dana Browns superb capture of the raw elements of what is in it's most basic form a true test of will and endurance is faithfully rendered. As others have pointed out in reviews the movie could be more tightly focused, there are several plot lines and characters involved that unless the viewer is familiar with the sport can be distracting from the main message. However the beautiful photography of the Baja Peninsula and the cars, bikes and personalities capture the imagination and pull this film together.
Take it from someone that has been there, my first Baja race was in 1974 and I have been back many times since as spectator, pit crew and entrant...this film captures the Baja as well as can be possibly hoped.
If you love an adventure, this movie is for you. A well done documentary of The Baja 1000. I've wanted to run the race since I was a kid and that desire burns even greater after watching this movie. You feel like you are there and you are definitely tired by the time it is over. Put this movie in your collection. You won't be sorry!
No doubt this is one of the best movie/documentary ever done about the Baja 1000 race, you can't understand what drives such people like Robby Gordon, Johnny Cambell, Jimmy Vasser or even Mario Andretti to come and compete on the best offroad race of the world The Baja 1000. This movie catches the real reason for that and to try to agree with is almost impossible, just imagine this, they spend thousands and sometimes millions of dollars to get the best offroad vehicle to compete on the race and the reward if you win is just about $4000.00 dlls, so go ahead and said that they do it for the money but check this movie and you'll see the real reason, they do it for the fun, the challenge and because they are themselves on a place where they are beloved not because they are famous, We love them because they race on OUR roads, OUR higways, OUR streets and OUR backyard and at the end of the race they share their satisfaction and they ALWAYS say "Gracias Amigos"....
I love this movie. It's a documentary movie that doesn't make you want to close you eyes and fall asleep. If you are a fan of off roading, whether its trucks, buggies, quads, dirtbikes, or even baja volkswagon bugs, you'll love this movie. I've seen this movie before when I worked at No Fear, but since that store took it off the shelves it has become impossible to find. Therefore, thank goodness to ebay. I definitely say this is a great movie.
I purchased this DVD because my son asked for it for a Christmas gift. As always, I search ebay for dvds & cds before I waste time and money running from store to store to find something that isn't on everybody's Top Ten List. The movie is good and finding it on ebay just made it that much better.
Great movie (finally) about the Baja 1000. From the Son of filmaker Bruce Brown (On Any Sunday, Endless Summer) If you love off-road racing, This is a film you wont want to miss. 3 thumbs up!
this movie is the real deal unlike all the bullshit that movie supercross the movie was supercross the movie makes a joke out of all the riders dust to glory is about mouse going 1000 miles iron man(by himself) i bought it to add to my motocross collection i give this movie 5 stars
watching dust to glory makes me hate the house i'm watchin it in! i'd love to be out there racing with them, but the movie lets me get as close as i can without any travelling! it really dose capture as much depth and emotion of the whole thing as it possibly could, a job very well done.
I first saw this movie on a cable movie channel, and watched it not because I'm a racing fan per se, but because my sweetie races motorcycles. I watched "On any given Sunday" with him, and actually liked it. I liked this movie for the cinematography, and that it showed the race to be more than a show of "big money". It gave some insight into the personality of someone who enjoys racing. Thinking about what it took to film such a movie is mind-boggling, and the final product certainly seems to me to have been worthwhile. Kudos to everyone who did it. Not being any kind of "motorhead", I watched it without caring about the machines racing, but the sheer spectacle of such an undertaking. It ended with me wanting to see more. An excellent movie for any race fan, and very good for anyone who's not.
If you like any type of racing you will like this movie. Racing the Baja is the real deal and this movie lays it out in a great format. The only thing missing which is impossible to grasp by modern media is the sound of a trophy truck and the smell of its buring fuel as it races 2 feet past you at 120MPH.
I like the CAr, more if are the Race especiality if be Off-Road, and i have my Motorcycle 550, and i live in EnsenADA, the is make the Off-road the BAJA 100
Well made and directed, great cinematography and great scenery. Not just another quick to market truck and cycle action documentary. This is well thought out, plays well and most importantly keeps the viewer interested for the entire 90 minutes. Hats off to the directory and producer. Anything else they film I will be buying. Best video on the market concerning the Baja 1000.
The film footage was exellent the director made it seem like you were in the race with the competitors.I am a big off road racing enthuseist and the baja 1000 is the cream of the crop race and i wanted to see in detail what it took for some of the teams to try to complete the entire 1000 grueling miles of the Baja.Exellent film i would recomend it to any body with an interest in off road racing.
This was a movie my husband watched as a kid. It was great to watch it again 20 years later. Though this movie wouldn't be a box office hit by today's standards, it was funny to look back and re-live the styles.
I bought the Dust to Glory DVD, and I was very satisfied with everything. I bought the DVD without knowing what to expect and it's a great documentary of the Baja 1000 and of the Baja scenery!!! You'll enjoy everything about it!! even if you are not into races!!. Great for the sorround sound!!!
I greatly enjoy the quality and subject matter of the film - the most complete documentary of the Baja 1000 off-road race ever made - and am running it as I write this, for at least the tenth time. I'm an admitted "motorhead" and would recommend this to any motorcyclist or car go-fast person who can relate to the motivation of the main characters shown in this movie. Some things are shown that have never been done before and a level of development in vehicles and skill in people are truly amazing. There is nothing negative worth mentioning because there isn't any!
This is a great movie/documentory!! It keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout the whole film!! If you like the style of movies like The Endless Summer you will LOVE this off road version! Dirt bikes, Sand Rails, Trophy Trucks, Baja Bugs, Dirt and soo much more!! You will feel like you are in the excitement of the race!! I highly recommend this movie to any off roader stuck at home or anyone that is interested in learning more about racing!! Even if you aren't into off roading you will be when you are done with this movie!! A+
Very informative movie. I enjoying documentary types. I am an avid racer myself, so that helps. If you have a need for speed and/or enjoy racing of any type, then this is for you. Trophy trucks, quads(My race vehicle), bikes, buggies, and other wild race machines tear up Baja Mexico.
I buyed this movie because I am an off road race fan, this movie its more a documentary ,It shows you how the world famous baja 1000 is organized, developed, planned, and it shows also its sorroundings(like been backstage). after seen it you will have an idea how the things are in baja california MEXICO,there is no love, lust or envy in this movie just pure race passion.
This dvd is the next best thing to being there! My big brother and I were part of a race team and ran chase during the 1999 baja mil, and this video tells it like it is! Whether you are into buggies, trucks or motorcycles, this is a must-have for any off road enthusiast. A very good documentary of a legendary race.
