Dumbo (VHS)

Dumbo - a great teaching tool by Disney

Pros:
that darling face and wonderful ears

Cons:
none

This classic Disney movie has always been one of my favorites because even though it is fully animated it is directed at adults. After all, what child [God forbid] would ever understand the Pink Elephant theory in this movie? Beautifully animated, Dumbo was one of Disney s shortest and least expensive movies. Looking to the skies Seems is it birthing month at the traveling circus and the storks are flying to and fro, dropping their bundles of love into each cage, sometimes multiple bundles for some expecting mommies. Yet, Mrs. Jumbo, although she constantly searches the skies, sees no little..

Pros:
Uplifting message, fun songs

Cons:
Racial stereotype

Dumbo truly is an amazing film. I always forget just how long it is. Or should I say short. At only 64 minutes, it is the shortest animated movie Disney has released. Yet it is so full of emotion and laughter it feels like a much longer picture. The story is simple. Circus elephant Mrs. Jumbo is expecting a baby. But when Jumbo Jr. arrives via stork, everyone quickly notices a problem. His ears are huge. In fact, they are so big he regularly trips over them. When his mother is locked up for trying to defend him, the nicknamed Dumbo must find his place in the circus. His only guide and friend..

DUMBO- A LITTLE elephant with a big heart
Review created: 01/17/08

Pros:
It's a classic.

Cons:
What's not to love?

It opens with the storks flying in the rain carrying different baby animals. They happen to land in Florida and begin dropping off baby animals like tigers, kangaroos, and bears there at a circus. Mrs. Jumbo the elephant, desperately wants a baby, but so far the stork hasn t dropped off a baby to her yet. Finally one stork, who seems to have gotten lost, stops on a cloud to consult his map and finally finds Mrs. Jumbo and delivers the little bundle. The stork is hilarious singing happy birthday to Jumbo junior and making Mrs. Jumbo sign that she received one baby elephant. As the other...

Dumbo - A strong and silent hero
Review created: 05/05/05

Pros:
Wonderful animation, great story for the kids

Cons:
Age hasn't been kind to the film quality

Confession: I'm 32 years old and I haven't seen Dumbo. With that out of the way, I figured it would be a good time to watch it with my kids ages 2 and 5. Needless to say, Dumbo is a classic and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. Story The story of Dumbo is one of the simplest in the Disney archives. Mrs Jumbo is an elephant in the Casey Jr. circus and like most Disney parents (or parents to be in this case) she is single. The film begins with storks dropping off babies to the animals in the circus. All except Mrs. Jumbo. never fear, her stork is merely late and she is dropped off a beautiful baby..

Disney Wins Again with Big Ears
Review created: 09/13/00

Pros:
great story and animal characterizations

Cons:
some may find the pink elephant sequence a bit disturbing

It's a big event when an elephant is born, and Mrs. Jumbo, the proud pachyderm parent on Casey Jr.'s circus train, is tickled to death with her youngster. The tiny elephant is as cute as can be, but there is one feature about him that makes the other elephants stop and stare. Dumbo, as he is called, has huge ears. Left unattended, they cause him to trip over his own feet. Though Mrs. Jumbo tries to keep her son's ears from causing him any trouble, word gets around that there's a baby elephant with big ears. When a group of unruly teenagers come to torment Dumbo, the furious Mrs. Jumbo gives...
