Confusing If You Haven't Read The Book
Review created: 03/15/07

Dreamcatcher is a strange, far-fetched movie that will leave you guessing until the end. It's a sci-fi, action, horror all in one. It's entertaining, but people I know who haven't read the book, really don't like this movie too much. I've read the book and I think the movie is decent, but I understand what others are going through. Things are happening for a reason, and those reasons are laid out in the novel. But when you watch the movie and don't understand why Beaver just has to have that stupid toothpick on the floor in the bathroom, it's understandable to think that this movie is kind of dumb. But in the book, you learn that Beaver has a toothpick thing. He has to have a toothpick in his mouth at all times, it's like his drug. Another thing that makes more sense after reading the book is when Jonesy is inside looking out of his body, but Mr. Grey is in control. When Jonesy takes all the paperwork about Duddits and puts it into storage, he's hiding it from Mr. Grey. It makes more sense when you read the book, but I can see where it's confusing if you haven't.

All in all, Dreamcatcher is a decent movie. I thought it was close to the book, but I recommend reading the book as well. It won't be confusing at all if you've read the book, but that's part of the fun of watching the movie. Not knowing what is going to happen makes it more fun to watch. This movie is a little bizarre with people crapping out aliens (I'd never seen that before in any movie, odd but original), but that strangeness is part of the story that was invented by Stephen King. He truly has a strange imagination. I wish I had the imagination he does. And the bank account that goes with it.

  Not up to par

I enjoy a good SciFi, but unfortunately this flick doesn't fall into that category. The acting is fairly decent, but the plot is very weak. As I watched the movie, I kept waiting...and waiting...and waiting for the movie to pick up, entertain me and leave me with that feeling "wow that was a great movie." All I got was an empty bowl of popcorn and something that could be used as add for no doze.

Good movie I had seen it before but still enjoyed watching it a second time. The "R" rating is for violance and gore, plenty of that but not constant. If you like Stephen King you will love this movie.

GREAT movie. A little action, Sci-fi, good characters, great story. Surprises keep coming at you. Rented it, knew it would be one to watch when friends came over so decided to buy it at a great deal on eBay.

  Typical king fare!

The biggest beef i have with stephen king is that most of his movies start out strong and end weak!, This is no exception, I wish he would follow thru more often?, His best films are his non-horror endeavors i.e., Misery, Delores claiborne, Shawshank redemption, etc...., He should look back at his earlier film work i.e. Carrie, Cujo, The Dead Zone, these were Excellent!!!

Steven King...movies or books...which is better???

This was a pretty good, edge movie. If you have never read the book though, it would be fairly difficult to discern between what's currently happening and what's happening inside Jonesy's head. A lot of flashback to younger days, but if you are paying attention, you catch it from the start. All in all I love Steven King and though the movie was good, the book was excellent!

I thought the Dreamcatcher would stop the nightmare.

Pros:
Stephen King and sci-fi fans will enjoy it.

Cons:
The film did not include one of the trailers I saw on TV.

It s Friday night so grab a blanket, turn off the lights and get ready to cuddle. I recently bought one of Blockbusters hottest new release a sci-fi thriller from director Lawrence Kasdan titled Dreamcatcher. I wanted to see Dreamcatcher when it was originally released after watching the trailers on TV. You ll have to go into this movie believing that everything is connected, every event, every action, and the statements made by all the characters. The film is based on a Stephen King novel is a riveting tale of horror and scary sci-fi. Dreamcatcher revolves around four men who rescued a...

Aliens, Gastrointestinal Issues, and Military Occupation: Unlikely Equation For Horror Success

Pros:
Great acting, special effects, good emotional adaptation...

Cons:
Change to ending, military presence detracts from story...

I avoid 7pm opening weekend shows like the plague. But for some bizarre reason, I decided to view Dreamcatcher on just such a night, and was pleased with both the film and the relatively hushed audience. Dreamcatcher is the Lawrence Kasdan film based on the 2001 Stephen King novel by the same name. Since Kasdan is a real director with credits like Grand Canyon, The Big Chill, Silverado, and Wyatt Earp to his name it seemed that a viewing of this King adaptation would certainly be in order. Factoring in the gripping story and good actors Kasdan s film certainly has a great deal of potential....

Who Duddits? He da Dreamcatcher man!

Pros:
Great setting in the snowy woods. Using a pistol as a cell phone...HAHAHA!

Cons:
Compromised ending, military subplot is intrusive. Without the book it's a mess.

Dreamcatcher is one of Stephen King's finest novels. The thing literally kept me awake all hours of the night for as long as I was reading it. (Of course, to be fair, I work overnight) All I wanted to know was what was going to happen next. However, much like life, the book follows an unavoidable axiom. That being, "Life is what happens while you are making other plans." So it wasn't so much getting to the next big revelation that was so great. It's what was happening in the meantime that ended up being the most memorable. Well, that's the perfect setup for an argument that would rip the...

Pros:
Morgan Freeman, Thomas Jane, Jason Lee, Damian Lewis, Timothy Olyphant, Tom Sizemore and Donnie Wahlberg.

Cons:
Ending breaks from the novel.

Dreamcatcher, $6.97 Amazon.com, is a widescreen DVD adapted from the Stephen King novel released by Scribner in 2001. Only a handful of movies based on Mr. King's work have achieved award-winning acclaim (Carrie, Misery, Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, The Shining) -- but I'd venture this particular flick is one of the better interpretations to appear on celluloid. Viewers of Dreamcatcher will -- generally -- be enthused that Lawrence Kasdan agreed to direct this film; one of the extras on this disc is an eighteen minute interview with him regarding the film production. Ronna Kress's..

Lawrence Kasdan s version of Stephen King s DREAMCATCHER 2003
Review created: 11/10/03
by: artbyjude -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Performances, special effects, directing, cinematography, in that order

Cons:
Scatological focus gets a bit much, Morgan Freeman is miscast

The movie version of Stephen King s book of the same name turned out to be better than expected. I was not a great fan of the book, although it has the touch of the master . The story has all the elements that continue to make the horror writer one of the most popular authors of our day, and the movie brings this nicely to the screen. The classic King elements are the extended buddies from childhood theme, and the ability to turn the ordinary things in life into something decidedly OTHER than ordinary. Friends who know each other well over time are able to anticipate each other with an...
