I'm sorry I didn't write a review. My cable co. is on 1 day and off the next. We get something on our mind and then forget it due to the internet not working. I was very pleased with the book. It was like brand new and nothing was wrong with it. Thanks, Dee Dellerman
My watercolor teacher suggested this book, and pointed out that the old edition is easier to use than the newer one currently at stores. I started using it and really found it interesting, and am already seeing improvement in my drawing skills.
Last week I checked out the latest ed. at the store and I could see my teacher's point: too much stuff added in, as if to accommodate shrinking attention spans. Drawing is an age-old skill, and the old instruction is still entirely valid.
I have used this book for years as a professor to help students access their creative skills. The exercises in the books are explained clearly and the improvement in drawing skills is remarkable. A friend expresed an interest in being able to draw, so I bought this for her as a gift. Obviously, buying it through eBay made it very afforable.
This is the best book I have ever read. It is clear and gives excellent points as to why you can learn to draw well even if you can't manage a straight line now.Using the right side of the brain to tap into the creative side works even if you can't figure out why or how. BUY BUY BUY this book if you have ever wanted to do more than just doodle on the phone book!I had read this book before at the library butI had to have a copy for myself if only to go back and read about the very interesting parts of the brain and how they work.
This book is a fantastic guide to learning how to draw by "unlearning" how we perceive light, shadow and shapes. I first heard of this book in 1984, and I wish I had purchased it then. I highly recommend this book to any illustrating enthusiast who wishes to take drawing seriously. It does not matter what your age is or your illustrating skills are, even if they are poor. Betty Edwards' book is full of illustrations of students and how they progressed from lacking in skill, to being capable of capturing the beauty of the human physique on paper. Kudos to Betty Edwards for publishing this masterpiece! Page Sausman
