I originally didn't like this movie but after a few viewings it really grew on me. I love this movie now. Mike Myers is great, Alec Baldwin is hilarious, and the two kids are spectacular. The make up, special effects, and story are awesome and this movie is now one of my favorites.
It's very much like The Grinch so if you loved that movie you'll love this one.
Final Verdict:
5/5
Rent or Buy?: If you love these Live Action Seuss movies you'll love this movie.

This is a funny movie! The characters are silly. Kids love the movie. There are a few jokes adults will get too--which aren't too blatant that kids will catch. Alec Baldwin does a good job being funny without trying to be. It mixes all the right elements to be a fun movie to watch.
I read Dr Seuss' book The Cat in the Hat. I was impressed. It has good values and is good for children. However the DVD disppointed me. The cat bent and showed the his bottom. I wouldn't want my children to see it. Do we want to teach our children bad values. Art should ennoble us. I recommend the book, not the DVD, for my children. Yes, that is the only fault, but it is a serious fault, as it shows bad and vulgar taste. Not for my children.
Opening up the imagination of a child is a great quality in any movie. This movie definately has that quality. Not only will the small children in the family love, the child in every adult will too.
I absolutely love this movie!!! The quick whitted cat is a hoot. My son originally had this on VHS but because our VHS quit working, he requested I order it for him on DVD. There are a couple sayings that may be a bit racey for children in this flick, but other than that, this movie is great for people of any age.
Mike Myers is hilarious in this movie! He entertains kids and adults! Definately worth watching! My kids love watching it, and it never seems to get old!
The movie has two well known stars (Mike Myers and Alec Baldwin) that play almost-unrecognizable characters. However, the personalities of the actors come through and make the movie. Our family loves it!
My 2 year old daughter is in love with this movie- every day she points at her tv or the one in our living room and says "hat?"- For awhile we watched this dvd in the living room on a daily basis- and I actually didnt mind it half the time its a cool movie even thogh its a kid movie, but then again i grew up reading dr suess books....Now we also have the movie on vhs so my daughter can watch it at will in her own room!! No dislikes about it all- A++; I originally bought the movie i guess for 1) I had never seen it before 2) It looked like a kids movie that adults can enjoy too (like Shrek or soemthing) 3) I bought it for a penny from one of my dvd dealers
We received the movie quickly. The movie does have a couple spots where we have to skip it to the next scene because it stops itself. My kids love the movie though.
This movie arrived quickly, and was in brand new condition. My daughter is thrilled! She enjoyed watching the movie, which had its cover also in mint conditon. I would highly recommend this seller to everyone.
THIS IS A GREAT MOVIE & MY CHILD LOVES IT. HE WATCHES IT SO MUCH THAT MY NIECE THAT IS 2 WATCHED IT WITH HIM & SHE LOVED IT SO MUCH THAT HER MOTHER BOUGHT THE MOVIE FOR HER TOO. THANKS FOR A GREAT MOVIE !!!! A++++
My son loves this movie and it does show very well. It came in good condition. I really appreciate the quick arrival of this movie and the good quality of the movie. Thanks:)
I love that it is like a new DVD. Seller described exactly as is. Plays great! I also love the price I got it for. Could have never gotten it for that price in a store. Great deal!

Pros: Interesting visual effects and a few funny moments.
Cons: A small step forward for effects, a giant step backward for integrity...
Of all the cartoon classics that made themselves a daily routine during those sweltering summer vacations in Jacksonville, The Cat In The Hat ranks as possibly THE one that I watched the most. If machines could think, that VCR probably would have dealt me a few spankings of its own. I felt mostly ambivalent toward 2001's The Grinch. While I liked what they did, it just wasn't the same. With The Cat In The Hat, it's mostly more of the same. But I hesitate to have too much faith in my own intolerably inane skills as a critic, because how do you know when exactly you're crossing the line between.

Mike Myers Brings The Cat in the Hat to Life

Pros: Some funny things.
Cons: Cat was irritating at times. Some slow moments.
When I was a child, my grandmother got me most of the Dr. Seuss books. She and my mother both encouraged me to read from a young age, and some of the first books I read myself were the Dr. Seuss books that Grandma got me. I still have those books. She didn t get me all of his books though. I didn t have The Cat in the Hat or a few others. I have been seeing previews for the movie version of The Cat in the Hat for several months and I decided that I wanted to see it. I recently discovered that there was a cartoon version of the book that I somehow missed seeing growing up. Before seeing the...

The Cat In The Hat Falls Flat *SPLAT!*

Pros: The trailers of Cat In The Hat were the best part...
Cons: Disconnected from the Dr. Seuss reality...
I'll be the first to admit that I was never a big fan of Dr. Seuss's, Cat In The Hat. My speed was more, In A People House and Green Eggs and Ham. When Ron Howard and Brian Grazer announced that they were moving forward with a Cat In The Hat movie, I wasn't expecting much. After all, The Grinch, also based upon a Dr. Seuss book, had a lot of flash, but not much substance. So why did I go? My nine year old loved the trailers and hey - who can say no to a nine year old? Off we went, braving the crowds of snotty-nosed kids, and stressed-out looking parents... I assume you're familiar with the...

Crushing the Dreams of a Boy Who Always Wanted to Fly a Kite Indoors

Pros: Visuals
Cons: Everything Else
Synopsis: Sally and Conrad learn to set limits on their misadventure, with a little help from Dr Seuss' (Theodor S. Geisel) Cat in the Hat (1957). Analysis: There may not be many things that I'm sure of, but I do know a few for absolute certain. Leg-warmers will never make a come-back, DavidK93 IS gay, JackSommersby is NOT gay, and the world would be a much better place if every adult and child read (and understood) Dr. Seuss' books. In fact, referring to them as children's literature is a misnomer. There's not a single example of Seussian literature that fails to transcend any preconceived...

Some Liked Cat Less Than I Did; Better When Viewed Through Eyes of a Kid

Pros: Very funny at times, kids like it.
Cons: Fails at times (especially the musical sequence).
Sometimes, the problem with writing a review is just knowing whom you re writing it for. That s because your target audience is an important consideration when you re recording your impressions on any given product. Do they have the same taste as you? Will they at least be able to understand your analysis and critique? Any reviewer has his or her own biases, after all. It s important for a reader to identify this, and then take any advice in a review accordingly. So what s the point of all this in relation the Universal Pictures The Cat in the Hat? We re getting there, so please be patient....
