Cons: None--for music of it's kind, its almost perfect
By 1972 Elton John was becoming a serious force on the pop rock scene. He had already acquired a reputation as an outrageous and entertaining live act. He had released several US albums in rapid succession ("Elton John", "Tumbleweed Connection", an odd live album "11/5/70" or something like that, and "Madman Across the Water") to increasing critical approval. "Honky Chateau" hit the best seller lists in early 1972 and the first single, "Rocket Man", received heavy airplay on FM radio and some AM (back then, MUCH different from what it is now--mostly underground stuff). In October 1972, with my then girlfriend, Linda, I saw Elton John in concert. My mind boggles now at the songs he must have done. All songs off his early albums. But the high point, what I remember most clearly, is his saying something like This is my new single off my new album. It comes out next week. I hope you like it. He then blasted into CROCODILE ROCK. Needless to say, the crowd went wild. Whether that s why I have such a fondness for this album I can t say. Regardless, there is not a weak track on this disc.
