Priot to purchasing the Dell Axim x-30 I did my research. Th Dell Axim x-30 with the 624 mghz processor is an exceptional product. Excellent. But I ended up purchasing the Dell Axim X-30 with a 312 processor because I assumed that the description on the ebay listing was incorrect. After getting the product and finding it has half the processing speed I expected I did more research. Dell did indeed release a 312 processor x-30 and a 624 x-30. Why they would both share the same name is a mystery to me. Normally when a company releases a new product it's given a new name. And the differences between 312 and 624 is like night and day. This is an example of Dells backward thinking.
What differences do the speeds mean? If you wish to run VoIP programs like Skype a fast procesor helps alot. If you wish to watch video at 640x480 resolution a fast processor is needed. But to play solitaire, surf the web and receive email the 312 processor is fine.
I ended up buying another product with a faster processor. If you get the Dell Axim X-30 make sure it is in fact the 624 processor.
I have just received my Dell Axim X30 and really like the feel of it in my hand. This is my second Axim I have owned my first being a X5 which was very useful to me. I would be still using it if it had not been misplace, because it the best PDA I had every owned. If this one is as good, it will give me years of service as the previous did.
this pda has many useful features such as wireless internet builtin in addition to bluetooth -screen is bright and crisp and programs are easy to sync with my Windows Vista computer
As a previous owner of several. The Dell Axim X30 has many useful and exciting benefits. Easy to use the Dell Axim X30 is a nice compact way to keep all of your important info stored and ready at a touch of the stencil. Its size and speed make it a great micro mini computer. No more lugging around that daily planner. The Dell Axim X30 holds tons of info, plus music, movies, and more. So if your looking for a sleek, compact way to go, This one I would definitely recommend.
This is a handy little device. I am able to leave my laptop at home on most occasions especially if I am in Starbuck or any other place that has wifi access
This PDA is wonderful! It integrates with your Outlook items, Excel, Word, and more. I used it for contacts, calendar, pictures, music, bluetooth, etc. I really think it's a great item!
This mighty machine is an entire PC in the palm of your hand. I love the fact that you can get onto the internet and surf from your couch. It has many apps that you can download for free and for pay that span from office applications to games. Definitely a useful little machine.
It's a simple, light weight machine. I upgrated this PDA to the A06 firmware build, that will be the last for the X30. With this upgrade you can use the WiFi connection even with less than 30% of battery charge. Windows Mobile 2003 SE it's quite good, even if it needs more Mhz than Palm OS. The wifi is very useful, if you use 1 o 2 GB SD you can memorize a lot of good pictures and also a 2 hours of movies for each half giga. There's good and simple free software for converting movies from DVD to AVI. I think that the 624 Mhz could be the best choice, but even a s/h at 312 Mhz, paid not more than 100-130 $, works well in quite every condition. Also MP3 player works very fine and with more than one card or with a big card you can store pictures, movies and also a lot of music. Battery life is not excellent, it's better to use a 1800-2000 Mah . This X30, at a price around 100$, present a very good quality/price ratio, but you have to consider the cost of a giga card, of course.
I bought my Axim with one thing in mind. I am very much involved in girls travel fastpitch softball and I am going to use this Axim with some great software to keep score for our team and this will make things so much easier with keeping stats, lineups, and the score itself. I have also downloaded music and pictures to my Axim. I have yet to purchase a wireless card, but am looking forward to doing that as well. I am very anxious to get an opportunity to start using my Axim!!!
The X30 ROCKS!! I flashed the device to the new A06 firmware build.
It sync's perfectly, every time. I have had no software or hardware issues. Mine is running Windows Mobile 2003 with the latest updates. It has really helped me stay aorganized and in tune with what is going on in my life.
The MP3 player (Windows Media Player) actually does a better job on my Axim hten it does on my XP machine. Sound quality is better, ease of use is superb.
Durability is also very good. I have dropped my x30 twice and the only problem has been that the battery pops out.
Battery life is excellent. In normal use I get about two to three days between charges. Normal for me is primary use as an organizer with occasional use as a web browser/email checker.
Wi-fi is superb and I think a REAL strength in ths machine. I can easily find wireless sights, and log-in is straight-forward and signal quality is usually very high. I have NEVER had a drop of a signal that was in the fair to excellent range. It did drop one time when the signal was listed as poor (I don't beleive that was a problem with the X30, but a problem of too weak of a signal available).
All-in-all this is one of he best handhelds I have ever owned. I have owned Sharp, Palm, and Dell and the Dell beats them all at this point.
2nd one I have purchased. Carried 1st one to Africa, Europe, South America, Central America, Mexico as well as USA for two years.
With a 256Mb flash card, I carry with me 9 Bibles in four languages and a number of other reference works. Together these books would weigh about 60-80 lbs. and be impossible to take due to the weight restrictions, so it is a great help to me to have all this reference material handy.
Only negative comment is that my 1st one broke down -- digital board. The technician told me it is hard to get. I don't remember it getting dropped or a big jolt, etc., but something happened to it, so I bought another one.
It has a good sized screen and is easy to use.
I have tried several other brand units that family and friends have, but like this Dell unit better.
item received broken and i am having a hard time getting a refund from seller to date i still haven't gotten my refund. (9-10-2006)transaction was very ,very poor. eddie
Bought it to replace my Axim X3 w/ WiFi/Bluetooth that suffered internal battery failure. This is the 1st problem with the Axim - a built in internal battery that requires expensive Dell service to replace. The second problem is that the owners manual and on line help for setting up WiFi are poor, especially when dealing with a secure home/work network. The last problem is that getting Dell to help you solve any problems for a product out of warranty is expensive - $99 for a single Dell on call issue. You might as well buy a new unit with warranty and on call support. Otherwise, the Axim is great for replacing a thick day timer or Franklin and minimizes having to carry your laptop to meetings.
