Easy network set up. I attached it to a wireless server and it works amazingly well. I can scan to any computer from it. It has a command console app. which is very useful and several other features. Truely a super bargain for what it can do.
I purchased this printer brand new on Ebay. I did extensive research on the capabilities of all available laser printers. Most considerations were given to DUPLEX PRINTING (printing on both sides of a printed page automatically), NETWORK CONNECTIVITY, and TONER COSTS plus the other features that are available out-of-the-box with no other hardware required. You will not need to purchase any other items to get all advertised functionality.
The Dell 1815DN surpassed all expectation. The networking was relatively easy to set-up using a Linksys wireless hub, even my laptop can print wirelessly to the Dell printer. Dell support is responsive, and informative. Yes, I did need to call Dell support for guidance in set-up so that all network functionality was available. Just make sure that you input your printers IP address into the front panel on the printer to save the printers IP address when you turn the printer off and on.
Scan through the network to e-mail or other programs on your computer. You can send scans directly from the printer to others via their email address. Unfortunately, the instruction book doesn’t explain all of the necessary settings clearly. Dell Techs can be helpful and necessary for the initial set-up of this feature rich machine.
Faxing is easy directly from your desktop programs. Using MS Word, choose print to Fax and create cover sheet, input a phone number and hit send. No need to have a printed copy to pass through the printer to fax documents to fax numbers or e-mail recipients.
USB input on the front of the machine was a total surprise! Print directly from a text file on your USB thumb drive, or scan directly to the thumb drive if you like.
The Dell 1815 prints to all types of paper sizes and envelopes. I have also installed the second paper tray to add another paper type and higher paper capacity. The front feed accepts paper as well as envelopes. The Additional drawer was the only accessory I needed to purchase. The included 96mb of memory is more than enough for all of the included features.
With the few short comings like: lack of detailed instructions and sometimes lengthy button pushing on the printer to get desired feature or output it’s all really worth it. Like many new things, there is a learning curve, and it can sometimes take some getting used to the new machine. A back light to the display would be a great. Perhaps this is more printer than many might need; it’s operating costs are far cheaper that the inkjet AIO I got rid of. Go to Dell.com and look for the Dell 1815DN.
I am very happy with it. It was easy to get set up & runs quietly. Simple to use. No problems at all. We just wanted to up grade to a laser printer & so far this more then is enough for us. We homeschool too, so this will be nice to run copies off of, saving time & ink/toner. Would recommend to anyone.
printer makes lines on the paper. The problem is by dell. they tried to repair and exchanged the product. No hope. The say they can't do anything. Useless for professional business. I'll buy an other one...
I absolutely love my printer! It has great printing abilities. I am an attorney, so I print out a considerable amount on some days. The scanner works great. The only thing that I haven't had an opportunity to tackle is changing the settings for the scanner. I am going to have to pull out the manual for that one! I do not use the fax, but I am very happy with my purchase, thus far!
I recieved the printer within a few days of winning the bid. The printer was exactly as described and 100%. I would buy from this seller again. Thanks for a great transaction.
When the toner in my 1815 dn goes down to 50% print quality suffers. I get lines across the page. This has hapened with severel toners and needs to be addressed as toner costs are high. Only solution is new cartridge and when at 50% or lower same thing happens. I would not buy another of these machines.
only problem is that Dell toner cartridges are hard to get. Love to be able to view the amount of toner left--what a great help!! also, you may order supplies right on the screen.

Pros: It prints words and faxes. Wow!
Cons: Beep. Toner is outrageously overpriced. Be prepared to be raped on this. Beep. Beep. Beep.
This is a fairly typical Dell product. It has a ton of bells and whistles (useless features). It works for a year then it craps out. Beep. How many Dell products have I owned that did the same thing? Too many! And I wont make the mistake anymore. Beep. This printer is also a toner hog and thats fine if you can get the toner aftermarket. But no... this is one toner cartridge that only Dell supplies. Beep. So they cram you hard on the toner. A major problem for me. Beep. Beep. Beep. This printer beeps for any reason. Beeps for paper jam, beeps for printing, beeps for faxs, beeps for freaking...
