The Game that you play for HOURS

Wow, this game was fun. I finally completed all 50 Achievements, and had to write a review for the game.

To start, this game will require you to play through like 4 times in order to see everything. Plus, when you add the other two modes. Hours just fly by. The graphics, game play, story, and all around fun of the game make it worth your time. For those who love the Zombie killing games, this one beats all of them. Rather than the usually Gun, bow, sword, etc. You are open to ANY item the Mall provides. Run to the gym and grab a dumb bell, jump to the food court and make a smoothie, fry a pan on the stove to burn off a Zombie's face. And don't even get me started on the Home Depot type store where you can use a shower head on a Zombie to drain out their blood from their head.

Overall, the game is very graphic and should not be played by the young or those who don't like a lot of blood. There is no limit to what is possible when it comes to killing a Zombie, so keep that in mind when you go to purchase this game.

This game started as just something to pass the time. Then as I started to get into it, I couldn't put it down. I kept wanting to complete another part of the game and unlock something new. Some of the unlockable items include Mega Man's FULL outfit including his Arm Cannon, which in the game is called the Real Mega Buster. This weapon holds 300 shots and can one hit kill just about any being in the game including most bosses. You can also unlock a 'Laser' sword similar to a lightsaber that cuts through Zombies like grass.

The best part about the game is the fact that you are totally in a Mall that makes you feel like a real Mall in your own town. How cool would it be to go in and take any item you want from any store and use it as a weapon? Plus it doesn't leave out anything that might be in a current shopping Mall. They have a food court, rollercoaster, movie theater, outdoor park, gym, sports shop, gun shop, blade shop, supermarket, and five different book stores filled with books that you can hold in your inventory to enhance different aspects in the game.

So, have I given you enough?? Go out and give this game a try. You will NOT be sorry.

So much potential, such bad mechanics...
Review created: 08/10/06
34 of 58 people found this review helpful.

Let's take a killer concept (hundreds of zombies in a shopping mall) and some great weapons (literally grab ANYTHING you can reach to kill the undead) and completely ruin it with bad game mechanics. That's "Dead Rising" to a "T"!

The game is saddled with unrealistic bosses, ridiculous deadlines, a constantly-ringing communicator, and no real time to just explore and take full advantage of the incredibly rich environment that Capcom has developed. You want to just aimlessly wander around the mall trying to stay alive? Forget it-- that's just in the Xbox Live demo. The game is chock full of time-sensitive quests and missions with no real downtime whatsoever. Of course this shouldn't be a problem as long as you save your game, right?

WRONG! Capcom felt the need to saddle the game with a completely broken save system. First off, you have only ONE save per profile. Secondly, you can only save your game in a few physical locations in the mall. This means that sometimes you'll lose precious time running to a save point just so that you can keep your game to continue later. There are no checkpoints, no auto-saves-- nothing. Oh yeah, and if you miss one of those time-sensitive deadlines I mentioned earlier you have to RESTART the entire game as you are suddenly locked out of the storyline. There is no option to just run around and explore-- you are forced back to day 1, minute 1 all over again.

Dead Rising is one of the greatest examples of a brilliant concept that was completely and utterly ruined by heinous execution. Everything that people really wanted from the previews and the demos just isn't here. Instead, you have a contrived "beat the clock" game with unrealistic bosses (people who can fire a .50 calibre sniper rifle while standing and use it as a melee weapon), poor save mechanics, and a "race the clock" format that sucks ALL of the fun out of this game.

Most people seem to be going "ga ga" for it but I'm just trying to recoup some of my money by selling this game back on Ebay.

The game is fun and a little challenging... but all the cut scenes take for ever and every time you die (which is ALOT for me) you have to start from the very beginning again.

I enjoy bashing zombies with couches, trash cans, metal pipes, and other stuff. But the point of view camera SUCKS. The story is lame. DUHH im a photographer.. i have to take pictures of zombies.. duhh.. im a dumb papparazzi.. duhh... i like to sniff glue.. this game could have been better. you know how.. if it was RESIDENT EVIL. but its not.. i call this game. Queer Eye for the Zombie Guy. Resident evil has weapons. this has a camera and a bunch of furniture.. zombies fear furniture.. GAME STINKS.

We bought this game to replace one that was stolen.. the graphics are decent, the creative ways in which you can kill zombies is great, everything from kicking a soccer ball to running them over with a lawnmower.. then after you have beaten the game there are other levels of skill in which you can go back and master. The only drawback is that there needs to be a multi-player version..

Great for zombie fans! Get a strategy guide!
Review created: 05/11/08

Game is great, especially for fans of "Dawn of the Dead" and other zombie movies. The game is more in line with classsic zombie movies as opposed to the "Resident Evil" series. It a sort of play on (rip off) of Dawn of The Dead.
The game play is quite challenging as you have a time limit for missions / cases
with extra missions thrown in. I reccomened getting a strategy guide with the game, I hate and almost never use strategy guides, but you have to inorder to fully enjoy this game.

  Dead Rising
Review created: 05/09/08

72 Hours of Zombie slashing goodness. The crew at Capcom are no strangers to the zombie genre, having created it with thier ever popular Resident Evil series. But what about those gamers who want to enjoy the Shaun of the Dead style Zombie game? For those, comes Dead Rising. An entire Shopping Mall filled with objects that you can use to maim, dismember and kill the zombie hordes that fill every corner. Baseball bats, golf clubs, chainsaws, planters, cash registers, and even good old fashioned guns can be used to hack, blast and bludgeon your way through the storyline. The best part of it all? You are a photojournalist in the game and you can photograph all of your shenanigans to show your buddies when they come over. I rate this game as the best zombie game of all time for violence, comedy and extended gameplay content. If you have an X-Box, you have to pick this one up.

Why did I purchase Dead Rising from Ebay
Review created: 05/07/08

I like that it was user-friendly. I heard about this game through a mutual friend... The only dislike that I have is that I can't save whenever I want too. I bought it beacuse I played it over a friends house. It was very fun.

I didn;t like that it;s for 360, so had to get one but other than that I loved the game. You have to be careful everywhere you go and any room or elevator you enter because you never know. I would recomened to get this game and a 360 if you do not already have one. I like how you put things over there heads to hide and that you have so many hours to get out alive.

A Classic for Infinite time play!!!!
Review created: 03/25/08
by:

This is one of my favorites XBOX 360 game... I'm still playing this game!!! Every time during the game you discover another survivor, a new weapon and a best way to play the game... EVERY SINGLE TIME!!!

The graphics are super-super cool, sound, drama, scenarios, etc. Almost everything is a weapon and when I say almost everything is it!!! A bench, a sign, a frying pan, a pipe, a 2"X4", CD's, a basin, a chunk of an arm, chairs, toys, sporting goods, boxes, bats, cans, hammers, etc etc and THAT'S without counting the real weapons swords, knives, katanas, machine guns, shotguns, handguns, sniper rifles, laser swords, etc etc

Every time the game is "CONCLUDED" you always want more and more. You will start each game with the life bar, stock bar and skills earned from the previous games... There's a lot of skills, lot of people to save, a lot of zombies to disembow, twist neck, kick, slice & dice!!!

Every time you unlock an achievement you will want more and more that's guaranteed for sure...

Like in other reviews I made, I really have to say that:

DEAD RISING IS A MUST HAVE for every XBOX 360 owner!!!!!

Review created: 03/06/08

Dead rising is a 3rd person zombie survivor game.

pretty much everything in your enviroment can be used as a weapon, from brush scythes to soccer balls which makes for some pretty neat and sometimes funny zombie deaths. there are some clunky bits in the gameplay which might be annoying but really the game on the whole is just too much fun to pay much attention to them.
i found it harder than expected to survive early on, but don't worry about learning curve too much; every time you die you have an option to save your character so the next time you start from the beginning you keep all your level ups.
anyone who likes mass amounts of zombie killing fun will like this game.

Dead Rising gets 4 out of 5 brain soaked baseball bats from this gamer ^_^

I've only been playing this game a couple of days, but I already hate the save feature. You have to decide weather to save your game progress,or over write it to save your character's status (experance points, abilitiesincreases, etc.)when you die.So far it seems that to save your game progress you have to travel back to where you started the game. The only other darw back is all the exsessive load time pauses, for traveling from one part of the game area to another, and all the short movie scenes.Other than these two things, game play and graphics are good.

Secretly praying for the Zombie Apocalypse? THIS IS IT!
Review created: 02/12/08
by:

Summary:
Capcom has done an amazing job showing exactly what the Zombie Apocalypse would be like. Some people panic and die, some people fight back, and some just try to stay safe. Others are still looking to reunite with their loved ones. This is the quintessential zombie apocalypse simulator.

Significant Traits About Dead Rising:
Humor -
The game takes very few steps to be deliberately funny. It does a fantastic job of portraying the game's events as horrifying. However, the game gives you, the player, the opportunity to make the situation funny. It's up to you to put novelty masks on zombies, run them over with lawnmowers and "crowd surf" by stepping on their heads, all the while, wearing under-sized little-boy's clothing that you found in a kids' clothing store.
The game is a hardcore experience... when you want it to be. But when you're looking to just have a good time, Dead Rising delivers. You could say that this is a lot like the GTA series in that regard.

Options -
The game has a staggering amount of features that allow you to dispatch, avoid or simply toy with zombies however strikes you at the moment. With all the options, each of them is (more or less) viable to a (more or less) realistic degree. Play how you want, the game doesn't punish you for choosing the "wrong" weapon or wearing the "wrong" outfit.

While your character can "level up", there don't appear to be any ways to influence how your character develops. The game, instead, places focus on allowing you to choose your own methods for how you play, rather than giving you skill paths, which lock you into a play style.

Countdown Timer -
It's worth noting that this non-linear game is on a clock. You have to be at a certain location at the end of 72 game hours (not equal to real-time hours) or you will be lost in the mall forever. If you want to make any progress in the story, you have to focus on it, as you may lose your chance as the timer runs down.

Save System and Death -
It's been said before, and I'll say it again. The save system is intimidating. You can't create a backup save (without an alternate storage device), and you can only save at certain locations. It can be very difficult to make your way to a save spot, and as a consequence, HUGE sections of game progress can be lost if you die.
To make things trickier, it's often unpredictable how you'll meet your fate. Sometimes traversing the zombie horde seems like a cakewalk, while at other times you find yourself cornered with no way out and no good weapons. This can make it hard to gauge your "risk vs reward" when playing around the mall.

On the other hand, half the fun of this game isn't even about progressing through the story. It's about bashing your way through the mall. Since the game is on a countdown timer every minute you're playing, you can sometimes think of death as an opportunity to turn back time and have a little more fun.
While this view is a "Silver Lining", there's still the frustrating "Cloud" that is lost progress.
Some things you just don't want to have to do over.

Conclusion:
I believe that Dead Rising is a true achievement in modern gaming. It is as fun as it is atypical and innovative. It is worth playing for anyone who wants to see the art of game development progress, and it is a must-play for anyone who secretly hopes for the inevitable Zombie Apocalypse.

Killing Zombies... What more could you ask for?
Review created: 02/11/08

Dead Rising is a great homage to the zombie horror genre, particularly George A. Romero's Dawn of the Dead (the original, not the sub par remake). After playing through the story, which isn't too bad in regards to the plot (saving people, fighting lunatics, same old), players are able to test their skills by out lasting their undead enemies in the mall, racking up as many kills as they can. The game has countless replay hours, and can be played for months after the main story is initially beaten.

All in all, the game is a must have for any George A Romero fan. We have been waiting for a game that could just let us relive the best moments of his masterwork, and here it is, in the form of Dead Rising.

  Dead Rising Game review
Review created: 02/09/08

I love this game! I'm such a zombie game fan, I adore Resident Evil and Silent Hill for the PS2. When I bought my XBox 360, I knew this game was a must. I found it at a good price and was so happy when I got it.
Why I love it:
Free-lance zombie killing
Little missions to keep it interesting
Ability to earn points for using unique weapons (the lawnmower and hedge trimmers were my favorites)
It's a fun concept

I have been playing it off and on all day and I'm really glad I got it. I'm not a hardcore gamer or anything, so those who want a real deep plot might not enjoy the silliness of killing a zombie with a king salmon. I haven't bothered to try to beat it yet, I'm still trying to kill as many zombies as I can with fun stuff =)
