The first fifteen minutes of the move seems a little disjointed from the remainder. The movie starts out with the tragic death of the couple's toddler in a car accident. The next scene jumps to the couple out sailing the open seas presumably in an attempt to escape the nightmares of the child's loss. That is pretty much the last time the child's death plays any role in the film. Once they get past that point, the movie really starts to pick up. It turns into a suspenseful roller coaster ride with a couple interesting twists. The acting is very good. Zane plays a great nut case. Kidman is very good at playing the traumatized but resourceful survivor.
I gave this as a gift to my SISTER who loves dramas. She gave this one a 10! I personally thought that there should have been a SEQUEL to the movie. One in which there is a mysterious PREGNANCY, if you know what I mean.
I liked this movie, which won the Australian equivilant of the Acadamy Award for Best Picture. Good pace to the film, just enough gore and nudity to keep you interested. You will recognize nearly everyone in this film (much younger).
