The seller sent me the different edition, the international edition. There are some tricks in it, this edition is too more cheaper than the regular one.
Absolutely or even better than what I expected. The book was totally new and fresh out of the oven. Would definately want to buy again form the same seller.
Database Management Systems is a very good book about database systems concepts. All the important topics related to databases have been covered and topics have been compiled in a very convenient and appropriate order.
But the senior author, Raghu Ramakrishnan, seems to have found other challenges related to databases and has not found time to contribute further to his book since the 2002 edition. Therefore, some recent developments in database theory have left some topics slightly outdated in the book. Also, at times I felt that the authors go into too much detail while explaining a topic and I tend to lose interest in the text.
All in all, this is an excellent book which is still used in many leading institutions as the main textbook for database-related courses. But it would be even better if the authors could find time to put together a new, revised edition soon.
I was able to get a used textbook for a reasonable price. I appreciated very much that the seller was prompt in sending it. On a previous occasion, when the seller had not sent an item in the time prescribed by e-bay, the latter had refunded my money promptly. These are some of the reasons which boosted my confidence in this process.
This book is like trying to read a dictionary, you just can't do it. You find yourself having to reread the same paragraphs over and over to understand what it is trying to convey. Furthermore, as if it isn't bad enough, you will need to flip forward and backward several pages to find a diagram that is referenced on a completely different page. In addition, this book doesn't cater towards any particular server language, so everything in it is taught in theory. Do not expect to be able to code any particular language after reading this book. In my class we were coding in SQL server, and despite owning this book, I still had to go to Barnes/Noble to purchase a SQL server book that could actually teach me how to code the principles that were taught in this book. If you are required to use this book, then pray that you have a really good teacher.
Bought it for a class. Good for advanced database folks who wants to learn more about the underline mechanism for SQL and who wants to do a lot of SQL Tuning. To much about algebra and calculus.
