A strong contender for the greatest album ever released

A strong contender for the greatest album ever released. 'Dark Side of the Moon' spent over 14 years in the US Billboard charts and has a total of nearly 7 years in total in the British album charts, making it the longest and 5th longest chart runs ever respectively for any album. Now chart success doesn't necessarily equate to artistic greatness, but this album is widely acclaimed as a true classic.
The music runs continuously, each song merging into the next (except for one break - this was an LP release originally), all on the general theme of life and its trials. The tracks themselves are superb, ranging from (almost) straightforward rock songs like 'Money'(a US top 20 single with some very neat time changes) and 'Time', through languid accoustic tracks like 'Breathe in the Air' and 'Brain Damage', to the almost transcendental 'Great Gig in the Sky' featuring an incredible lyricless vocal performance from the initially uncredited Clare Torry. And then there is the frankly psychotic 'On the Run' with its fast paced cyclic rhythm and explosive crescendo.
But what really makes this album great is the addition of various sound samples such as manic laughter, screams, chiming clocks, looped cash registers, a heartbeat, and - most notably - various quotes such as 'I know I'm mad. I've always been mad, like most of us are' and 'There is no dark side of the moon really. As a matter of fact it's all dark'. These were apparently responses to a series of questions on a card which were put to various people in and around the studio, and the inclusion of these was the icing on the cake.
The production is far better than anything else of the period and introduced a whole new experience to multi channel listening. To this day it still sounds incredible on a set of headphones.
Even though many of the songs are excellent on their own merits, it is the whole album as opposed to its parts that gives the most gratifying results. This is an absolutely essential part of any serious music collection. Enjoy....

Dark Side of the Moon-Pink Floyd (CD 1990)
Review created: 07/16/08

This is one of the VERY best, most influencial, best-selling, and most-loved albums in history. What else can be said about Pink Floyd?

I saw them in concert in the late 1980's. It was amazing, but unfortunately Roger Waters was not there. Still, what an experience.

How many lifetime memories are touched by this album? It is so deeply woven into my teen and early adult years that it brings up deep emotions and memories. Listening to this album can take away my stress and put me in a relaxed, contemplative, and very peaceful state of mind.

Pink Floyd Dar Side of the Moon
Review created: 07/05/08

I grew up listening to Pink Floyd since 1967 and I have to say the DARK SIDE OF THE MOON has to be the best album they ever put out next to ANIMALS and WISH YOU WERE HERE. Although all thier albums are great in thier own way. This album lunched thier fame to new heights. The music is outstanding.
I have owned this album many times in the 70's - 90's due to wearing them out, this is the 5th copy I have owned. With this CD now in my collection of Floyd music,it completes the entire Pink Floyd CD Collection.

Dark Side didn't stay on top of the charts in the 70s and 80s for no reason. It's easy to get lost in the circular musical motifs on this collection , but when one pays attention to the lyrics, you get a dose of where Pink Floyd was coming from for all those years. They were essentially a VERY progressive blues-rock band (Google the name and where the band got it) that combined socially critical lyrics that would have done a topical sixties folk artist proud. Heck, it does us all proud.

Old favorite from the days when my sons played music non stop every day. Miss the kids, miss their music which left when they did. Thought I'd treat myself to a couple of my favorites. Glad I did.

This CD is a musical classic, it is Pink Floyd's stroke of genius, there is nothing like it in the world.
I bought this one because my old cd became scratched. I have listened to this cd over and over again and never get tired of it.

Dark Side Of The Moon - Pink Floyd (CD 1990)
Review created: 02/04/08

A true classic, once in a decade record. I dare you to check your friends music collections and not find this CD in at least one of them. Don't forget about "The Dark side of OZ". Here is how it works. Put the wizard of OZ movie in the DVD and Dark Side Of The Moon - Pink Floyd (CD 1990) into the CD player. Play the DVD until the MGM logo is running before the film starts and wait for the signal to play the CD. The signal is the 3rd roar from the lion in the center of the MGM logo. The third roar is kind of weak so dont miss it. On that third roar press play on the CD, mute the sound on the movie and ENJOY the strange sounds from the CD that seem to work great with what is happening on the screen. The words on the songs also seem to narrate what the people on screen are saying and doing. Example: When the CD says "The lunatic is on the grass", the Scarecrow steps off of the yellow brick road and dances in the grass. Some LSD and/or psycoactive shrooms help the experiance but it is not required for enjoyment. Have fun.

Mike D.

I had not listened to this music since 1973 when I used to have the album. To me it sounds just as geat and fresh as it did back then. Really a great album to help a person relax and rock out at the same time! Highly recommended!

not original very poor quality, skips. I did not leave negitave feedback cuz they will do the same and hurt me for being honest. I have done that in the past and it only hurt me. You need to change your feedback process to when negative feedback is left you go directly in to a dispute mode so only the person in the wrong gets the negative and stop them from hurting the honest person and not allow them to place any feedback for that transaction.

  DARK SIDE OF THE MOON
Review created: 12/04/07

The classic and probably the best all time Album of all time. Forever young and forever bringing new listeners into this group. Do you think anyone will listen to the RAP crap out now in ten years, NOT. Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon can be listened to as many times as necessary, never wears out .

Pink Floyd's accessible gem is a great album but I often wonder what it was that made the critics and the fans fall in love with it so much. I mean, sometimes it sounds more like Alan Parsons than Pink Floyd. Regardless, it's a great project and despite the lack of quirkyness and avant-garde moments it holds a special place in my CD collection. Brain Damage and Eclipse are by far my favorite songs here and they give the album a strong powerful ending that keeps me coming back. 4 Stars.

Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon is a rock classic. I would recommend this title to anyone interested in classic rock n roll. Songs such as Time is a timeless piece of music....And you run and run to catch up with the sun but its sinking, and racing around to come up behind you again....the sun is the same in a relative way, but your older, shorter of breath, one day closer to death...WOW!!!

This CD is a CLASSIC! It will go down in history like The Beatles, The Grateful Dead, RUSH, The Doors, Queen, Santana, The Who and The Eagles. Life would simply be incomplete without ever have heard this album. It is one of the biggest and greatest albums of ALL TIME! And it isn't "just music". Pink Floyd is AN EXPERIENCE!!!! An experience like no other you will ever live to compare to in the music world. Pink Floyd has consistently produced masterpieces throughout the decades. Roger Waters still tours to this day. And you have only experienced TRUE Pink Floyd when you have seen the show LIVE! I have seen this performance LIVE twice in my life and feel like there is no better way to see a show. You can't go wrong with the tunes. And the list of tunes I would recommend listening to are endless. But ANYONE who has never listended to this album is really missing out on one of the greatest experiences life has to offer. Enjoy!

I liked Pink Floyd when I was young and still do to some extent. Bought this to have in my collection but have to admit it does not interest me as much as it once did. Still it is a terrific record of that place in time and worth a listen every now and then.
