Ben Affleck.... A Real Daredevil in the Comic Book Based Movie !!

Ben Affleck was born as Benjamin Géza Affleck-Boldt in Berkeley, California, to Tim Affleck, who was a social worker, and Chris Boldt, a school teacher.

At eight years of age, Affleck met ten-year-old Matt Damon who lived two blocks away in Cambridge. Affleck and Damon would later attend Cambridge Rindge and Latin School together, although they were in different year groups.

Ben came to national attention in 1997 when he and best friend Matt Damon wrote the screenplay for and starred in Good Will Hunting.

After other sucessful films, Affleck starred in Daredevil, a 2003 movie directed by Mark Steven Johnson, who also wrote the screenplay. The movie is based on the Marvel comics character, using predominantly the 'grim and gritty' stories written by Frank Miller.

As a sidenote, Ben subsequently dated his Daredevil co-star, actress Jennifer Garner who portrayed Elektra, and the two were engaged. In May 2005, it was announced that Garner was pregnant and the couple were married on June 29, 2005 in the Caribbean. Garner gave birth to a daughter, Violet Anne Affleck, on December 1, 2005.

I started with the Daredevil Comic Book when it first appeared in print, back in 1964, and stopped reading it in 1974... so I missed the change to the 'Grim and Gritty' aspect by Frank Miller and others in the 1980's.

The Daredevil Movie and the Elektra Movie that featured Jennifer without Ben, were both of a 'Grim and Gritty' Style,' but I still enjoyed both of them, mainly because of Jennifer!

This would be a good DVD to own if you were a Daredevil Fan or a Marvel Comics Movies Fan!

Michael

Ther CG os a bit of an offputting expiriance as it just looks fake, But the story is great, It's just too bad Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner did such crappy acting jobs...

Haven't seen this movie yet, but if the movie is even half as good as the actress Jennifer Garner, I'm more than sure it will be a hit and become one of my favorites!!!

  Daredevil-theatrer version
Review created: 04/10/08

The theater version leaves out several scenes from the director's cut version, and throws in at lease a couple of unnecessary scenes not in the directors cut. The director's cut, as a result, is much better than this version. However, the one thing I like about this two disc set is that it does have some special features not found in the single disc director's cut. For example behind the scenes features, music videos, trailers, and so forth. If they were to ever produce a director's cut with the second disc of special features then that set would have the best of both worlds.

Not bad for a MOVIE the Critics HATED

I always love to watch movies that the Critics hate.
Lots of action. Fun to watch. Jennifer Garner is always
a treat. Colin Ferrell was a great bad guy.

  Daredevil

While I must admit that I was predisposed to dislike this movie due to its' being poorly reviewed by the "professionals", I purchased it because I am a big fan of the comic turned movie genre. I found the story to be a little stale, but I greatly enjoyed the film nonetheless. The action was good, the interplay between Afleck and Garner was good, and the graphics well done. Besides, how bad can any movie with Jennifer Garner in latex and leather be????
I am glad that I bought it and reccomend its' purchase. Steave

Leather-Clad Ben Is A Red, Hot Daredevil
Review created: 02/14/03
by: kristinafh -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
<b>Jennifer Garner</b> is pretty damn hot! If I could <i>only</i> trade places...

Cons:
Too much for my eyes.

Preamble I went into this movie with zero expectations. I don't know anything about the Marvel comic book and special effects don't make my day generally. Let's face it. I went for the eye-candy factor. The Bottomline Daredevil is not a bad movie. Daredevil is not a great movie. Daredevil is okay. If you go into this thinking that it is another Spider-Man or Batman, then I think you will be disappointed. Men will probably enjoy it more than women. Or sbould I say, those who are into comic books and lots of fighting, will enjoy this more than people who like to join hands and sing kum-ba-ya....

Mark Steven Johnson's Daredevil: Proving Passion For a Subject Can Never Replace A Script
Review created: 02/14/03
by: d_fienberg -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Periodic dramatic framing, Jennifer Garner, Colin Farrell

Cons:
Awful script, wasted characters, hilarious editing, bad soundtrack

The stories on Daredevil all read the same: Mark Steven Johnson, who had only made one film (Simon Birch, an awful bastardization of John Irving's Tale of Owen Meany), managed to win the confidence of Fox and Marvel CEO Avi Arad with his persistence and his passion for Daredevil. Then this inexperience director got an 80 million dollar budget (elevated from 50 after Spider-Man broke) and a cast of established and up-and-coming stars, and they had a fairy tale production and made the big movie of early 2003. Now passion and persistence are wonderful things and they can elevate material above...

Daredevil! Not Bad, But Not Batman!
Review created: 12/22/03
by: botsybaby -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Some Special Effects, Story Isn't Bad, Characters Are Interesting.

Cons:
Dialog Needs Some Work, A Bit Corny, Ben Doesn't Strike Me As A Daredevil, Unbalanced.

Okay, I'll admit it. I don't know my butt from my elbow when it comes to comic books. I went into this movie with basically no expectations (other than I assumed it would be a total bomb) and no background on this widely known Marvel Comics' character. All that being said I'll tell you what I thought of the movie. The Movie: Daredevil stars Ben Affleck as Matt Murdock the lawyer by day and Daredevil vigilante by night. Jennifer Garner as Elektra Natchios the sexy, independent, butt-kicking girl. Colin Farrell as the insane assassin Bullseye. Michael Clarke Duncan as the evil top villan...

Colin Farrell -- uh, excuse me, Ben Affleck in Daredevil
Review created: 02/17/03
by: flamepillar -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Pantoliano and Farrell. Nice effects. Bullseye is hilarious.

Cons:
Takes a while for it all to come together. One sad part :*(

Okay, so Ben Stiller was the guy in There's Something About Mary, the one that looks like Ben Folds. Ben Affleck is the Pearl Harbor/Armageddon/Chasing Amy guy. One of these days I'll stop getting them confused! Ben Affleck has taken some considerable heat for his alleged incompetence as an action hero in Daredevil, but he's not as bad as you might think. The first time I saw him in the Daredevil mask, my initial thought was a flashback of sorts. "Hey, it's George Clooney as Batman." "Daredevil" is, of course, the public name for this superhero-by-night, whose senses are deranged and whose...

Daredevil : The return of the dark comic book movie
Review created: 06/01/04
by: three_ster-- a member of Epinions and Top Reviewer in Movies

Pros:
Story-line, Darkness, believable enemies

Cons:
On the short side

Daredevil is a movie that takes the comic book genre back to where most comic books need it to be; dark, character driven, and intense in the story-telling. Not since Batman, or if you count it, Spawn, have we seen a movie based on a comic book that would let itself be looked at in a dark fashion. Whereas most comics are built around the hero being shrouded in mystery, and the villain being the same, most movies try to show the characters in a light that will make them seem like they really are straight off of the pages. This movie, on the other hand, is a throw-back to the first 2 Batman...
