Curriculum and Instructional Methods for the Elementary and Middle School by Johanna Kasin Lemlech (2001)

This is such an excellent book for those considering entry or are entering into the field of education - it is a must read. It provides introductions to the main subject areas for elementary and middle school - social studies, science, math, and language arts. It is well organized and gives plenty of examples, shares valuable tools used in assessing student performance, and explores what consitutes effective teaching. In retrospect it may also be a good book for those who have been in the field for a number of years and need a refresher of basic goals and objectives of education in modern America. It takes a strong constructivist approach in my opinion which is a good way to educate young people - keeping them engaged and active.
