This album shows how Joni Mitchell defines sixties and seventies women in rock/folk. she, carole king, and carly simon are the major forces showing how independence, individuality, and yet vulnerability are revealed for the first time in women's words. Court and Spark and Help Me are standouts here. This is a good followup for collectors to the album Blue.
Court And Spark - Mitchell, Joni Wow, what a talent! I was probably about 15 when Court and Spark was released. I source of lost my way and hadn't heard her music for sometime. Then my television broke and I started listening to AM radio. I can tell you since that t.v. is long gone, my life has become so much better. We communicate and have conversations in our household. We listen to each other. We read books. We started listening to 560 AM (on the dial)Coast to Coast (comes on at 10:00p.m. PST). It was on Coast to Coast were I heard Joni Mitchell again. They were going to a break and the music is the breaking away to a commercial. I was reminded of how much I enjoyed her music. I had to have it and lucky for me I found it on ebay at a great price. Thank you seller. If you want to improve your life, turn off the t.v., start talking to your mate, read the newspaper, listen to AM radio (it's the only place you'll get the real political news), go for walks, go to church and listen to Coast to Coast (560 AM, Monday-Saturday, 10:00 PST). Life will be good. I promise.
This is a sweet album about dating and single life. She has great range and none of the songs are boring. Ups and downs and great rhythm. I like learning the words and singing along. Car on the hill is a favorite. They all are. I have played it every day since i got it.

Pros: songwriting; vocals; great musicianship; nostalgic
Cons: eh...um..*still searching*
The only thing (and I'm sure most young people too) knew about Joni Mitchell was "Big Yellow Taxi" and how Blue was such a classic album. These past few months curiosity got the best of me after reading about her career and her transition from folk to jazz-rock. I decided to start with her most famous album Court And Spark. This is the album that gave her (a very short lived) fame. This is also her first album that she ventures into jazz-rock. My first opinion was that it was too 70s for me and that her voice was too deep. Yes, in this album she mostly sings in alto. From the song I heard...

Pros: Brilliant vocals, lyrics, instrumentation, and production...that is, pretty much everything
Cons: None
My musical taste has been molded by the taste of my parents, at least to some degree. Sure, they don't quite understand the appeal of many of my favorite recent artists, but they got me into more artists than I could name, and many probably have a similar story to tell; who has a greater influence on us in our formative years than our parents? Joni Mitchell has always been a favorite of both of my parents, flower children they were, but I'm sure that even they wouldn't have figured their love for her music would transfer to their hipster son. But what's not to love about Joni, anyway? Her...

Pros: One of the BEST of the BEST.

WHO but the brilliant Joni Mitchell would lead off a CD in 1974 with those lines, I ask you? I must admit that dblplus' review, just today, titled "New to Joni" has inspired me to put on my COURT AND SPARK CD and crank it up HIGH. How delightful to read the reactions of someone so new to this most brilliant of artists, when I am so long and deep in her debt (please ref. all my other Joni Mitchell reviews). COURT AND SPARK came out in 1974. I was 16, and man was my life intense! It remains one of my top 5 favorites that she has ever produced. Not only is the music rousing and invigorating, the.
