Excellent album as was their 2nd and 3rd albums. I love the hard-rocking style of this band even though I'm a old hippie from the 60's. If you have a Kenny G., Michael Bolton, or Mariah Carey album then please hit your ESCAPE button now!

 AWESOME!!!
Review created: 04/04/08

This is Stone Temple Pilots first CD, and in my opinion one of their best. Although their second effort, Purple is equally stellar, CORE is one hard rocking heartfelt collection of hard driving tunes not to mention forever classic ballads. ("Plush", and the very end of "Sin.") I don't know WHAT they were thinking w/the drivel on the horrendous "Tiny Music from the Vatican Gift Shop" but they came back in a big way w/No. 4. Almost back to full circle to the wondrous Core. This is a must own for every STP/S. Weiland fan.........

What a debut, rightly launched them immediately. Easily one of the best albums of the decade(along with Dirt). Just buy it.

 Great Alternative/Grunge Album
Review created: 11/15/07

This is perfection when it comes to Grunge. For alternative, I've heard better, but this is still great. In other words, if you like one of the two or both, you will love this album. Never gets old. A solid headbanger, but not so hard it's death metal. There is no yelling nor screaming like your traditional hard rock or metal. Went so perfect. Every track (except for pointless instrumental riff No Memory) is great. 8x platinum stands for itself. Go ahead and buy it if you like Gruge or Alternative. You will not be disapointed.

 A very strong debut.
Review created: 09/20/07

This one shows the band at their heaviest, before No.4, that is. It could be comparable to an Alice in Chains album, but is very unique in its own right. "Dead and Bloated" starts it off and just begs to be played LOUD. "Sex Type Thing" is one of the big hits on this one and features some very catchy rhythms. "Creep" is another hit, and is probably one of their all-time biggest songs. Powerful lyrics and singing highlight this song. "Plush" is another excellent song, and my personal favorite. I'm not too sure what it's about, but who cares? This is alternative music, it doesn't have to make sense. I think this is a great debut and features Scott Weiland singing with a harsher voice (he toned it down after a while, especially on Tiny Music...). If you are a fan of alternative, this is a no-doubter.

 The Bastard Son of Grunge
Review created: 06/21/01
by: Freak369 -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Hard edged grunge, listen loud and listen proud! Flannel rocks!

Cons:
You have to wonder how much of Core is talent and how much is heroin.

When grunge was king, Stone Temple Pilots held the golden ticket to the ultimate backstage party. Catapulted into the spotlight in 1992 the band didn t develop a death wish attitude like Nirvana and didn t sell their souls [and eventually just sell out] like Pearl Jam. Could the Stone Temple Pilots be the band that will get chucked into the 1990 s music time capsule? Now this doesn t mean they were good little boys that went to bed early, drank milk and cookies and did the standard Dare Not To do Drugs commercials to gain a few points with the media. They knew the meaning of music and lived...

Grunge-type thing and the rise of Mr. Scott Weiland
Review created: 11/16/05
by: pyfr-- a member of Epinions and Top Reviewer in Music

Pros:
Good balance of flannel and leather. Weiland sounds like a raging mass of testosterone.

Cons:
"Where The River Goes" is a charmless fountain of manure.

It is my own personal theory that Scott Weiland will go down as one of the few real rock stars to come out of the 1990's. For a decade that produced so many bands, very few proved to have anything remotely resembling staying power, and while STP is either dead or on indefinite hiatus, the lead singer man has moved on to something equally lucrative: a revamped and renamed version of Guns N' Roses, minus that moody liability known as Axl W. At first, STP's appearance on the scene was anything but auspicious. They emerged in the middle of that flannel-clad circus known as the grunge movement and.

STP, the 'Core' of my existence
Review created: 06/27/01
by: lambchops-- a member of Epinions and Lead in Music

Pros:
Great songs, great music, great voices, great debut album

Cons:
Often pigeonholed as 'Seattle grunge,' ends too soon

Okay. I like Stone Temple Pilots. I have for going on ten years now. In fact, they are my favorite band. Therefore, this will likely be a very biased opinion. But hey....isn't that what epinions is for? STP released this album on September 29, 1992. In the midst of the Seattle grunge era, this was just one of dozens of bands trying to "make it" in the industry. But, there was something special about "Core." Something that really did shine, and that something is what has carred San Francisco's Scott Weiland, Dean DeLeo, Robert DeLeo, and Eric Kretz to the success that they have today. Despite..

"I'm Half the Man I Used To Be..."
Review created: 01/08/03
by: MattA75 -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
good ole rockin and rollin found here

Cons:
a bit repetitve in places

Forget what the music press told you 10 years ago...hell, they themselves have. Ten years ago, Stone Temple Pilots was, if certain music critics were to be believed, nothing more than a "Pearl Jam ripoff." If anything, this was funny because STP formed before PJ was even conceived (i.e., when Andy Wood was still alive). Anyways, while their debut album, Core, the album I'm now reviewing, is not their best work, it is still a highly enjoyable album of crunching guitar riffs, brain thumping drums, and sky high (no pun intended) vocal performances. The album spawned 4 rock radio hits, ranging...

The result of father grunge's secret affair | Stone Temple Pilots - Part One; Core
Review created: 10/30/04
by: terminator_cat -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Singles are awesome, other tracks show huge potential, catchy, accessible

Cons:
some obvious filler. STP are sometimes called the bastard son of grunge.

So who has heard of the Stone Temple Pilots? Well here they are. But better than just reviewing a few albums, I am going to review every album in order from the debut Core to the bands 5th and sadly final album Shangri-La De Da . Then finish up this with a top ten list goody. Its true that only a little while ago I did something very similar on another favourite band of mine - Pearl Jam. but I don t think it can hurt to do it with this fabulous band other than tell you how good they are . and make me sick of them by overplaying their music. So be grateful for my sacrifice! ___________________.
