"Confessions of an American Girl" is not about confessions, nor about anything resembling a normal, mainstream American Girl-- if such a thing exists. The protagonist is not just flawed, but flawed to the point that she cannot be recognized as a functioning person, although incredible acting manages to carry you over points that would normally have had you reach for the remote to change channels. None, let's make that all caps-- NONE of the main roles make sense, none of them hold up to being even lightly considered. Good technical work, great acting, a flawed story with a title designed to increase overseas sales, where, I am afraid, this will be touted as "the real America."
It's a shame to waste a good crew and some great actors on a story like this one.
While I thought that the plot sounded interesting, this was truly a very boring movie. The acting was poor, it was hard to follow, and the movie failed to make me "feel" for the characters. I wouldn't recommend it.
