The original cast recording of "Company" belongs in the collection of every serious fan of musical comedy. The 1970 production was groundbreaking in several respects. It was the first of the illustrious series of shows of director Harold Prince and composer Stephen Sondheim. It used the traditional musical comedy format to make a serious comment on marriage and relationships in contemporary society. It had what many consider to be among the finest casts assembled for a musical. "Company" won six Tony awards, including Best Musical, Best Music, and Best Score, and this recording preserves much.
