Sorry Shania, But I'll Have To Decline The Invitation...

Pros:
A few fun and upbeat songs, a couple of beautiful ballads...

Cons:
...weak lyrics, bad production, plenty of filler tracks, too long!

Shania Twain was already a huge success in country music when she released her third album, Come On Over in 1997. The disc was her first "crossover" album, with the songs sounding less country and more like pop music. Fortunately, this change in musical direction went over well, and Come On Over went on to sell 39 million copies worldwide, led Twain to the record books by having the best-selling album of all time by a female artist (and the best-selling country album of all time), and the album even went on to be the number sixth best-selling album of all time. Despite all those accolades,...

Man! I Feel Like a Sellout! (My Country Music Review Trilogy, Part 2)
Review created: 06/30/01
by: divad23 -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Some genuinely fun upbeat songs and a few romantic ballads that work.

Cons:
Mostly a "Mutt" breed of country and pop; quite a few really embarassing songs.

Author s Note: This review is the second third of a three-part rant on country music that started yesterday with my contribution to the latest Music Write-Off, where I was commissioned to review the Dixie Chicks album Fly. I realized that I had a few other country acts to speak up about, and hey, now is as good a time as any. I don t hate country music. At least, not most of the time. I may have torn the Dixie Chicks apart yesterday, but hey, I was able to see their strong points, and my biggest praise for them was that they didn t bow (for the most part) to the country-pop trend that is...

For being country music, this ain't so bad!

Pros:
Feel good sound, song style, catchy lyrics, a no-brainer must-have album.

Cons:
Still not my style, but at least it's good to listen to.

Let me tell you about my everyday, normal life. I get up in the morning. My mother listens to country music on her radio in the kitchen. I then get in the car while Dad brings her to work at 5 AM (I usually like to ride along), again listening to country music blasting on the radio. I get home, take a shower, get dressed, get in the car, listening to country music on the way to school. Once I get to school, there's usually music played between classes. Nine times out of ten it's country music. After seven hours of it, I get back in the car (you get the drill) and then hear country music at...

I Made My Mother In-Law Cry
Review created: 08/23/01
by: CarieP -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Beautifully written and sung

Cons:
none

I was introduce to Shania's music through my (now) brother in-law. He bought me her CD which contained this song. About three months after I received it my husband popped the question of marriage...Now lets step back in time for a minute so you will completely understand me. I met my husband in 1994. At first we got along great. Everything clicked, from our conversations, to the way he treated my daughter who I already had. He treated her as if she was his own. He always tried to make me laugh. Yes, my husband is still like this today but their have been MANY and when I say MANY that is what..
