To understand and appreciate Combat Shock you need the perspective of the young people who made the film at the time. We were all coming out of the Viet Nam era and the horrors of that war were still very fresh in our collective minds. I was in this film and it has taken me decades to fully appreciate the special gift that Buddy possessed as a film maker to so perfectly capture the darkness and betrayal that we as a nation felt at that time. It is unfortunate that so many returning Viet Nam vets met with fates not so different than Frankie's. If you want an uncompromising take on the Viet Nam era, without Hollywood slickness, I recommend this film highly.
This is actually the WORST movie ever made. Probably done on a budget of $200.00 or so. The actors (if you can call them actors) are the worst, the plot is the worst the effects are the worst and it was filmed in some old abandoned buildings on Staten Island which probably makes it the cheapest production ever! The only reason I bought it is because I know the guys who produced it and starred in it, from growing up on Staten Island. If you are looking for a REAL BAD movie, look no further. This is as bad as they get.

Pros: Captures the dark and gritty atmosphere to a depressing extent.
Cons: The DVD's lighthearted comic features are a little misplaced.
"Combat Shock" is unlike any Troma movie that I've seen before. It is by far and away the one that distances itself from the other titles, mainly due to its extreme difference in tone. Not only is this is truly depresing if not frightening film, but it is also one of Troma's best. When you watch this film you mustn't prepare yourself like you would any other Troma movie. Sure, the movie is dark and gritty and takes place in a dirty atmosphere, but the violence that is shown, not to mention the degree in sleaze, is nothing like the other Troma flicks. My basic point is...you will not laugh...

Pros: Good gore at the beginning, good story and great actors
Cons: the too many plotlines
In the story of Troma's huge movie collection, Combat Shock appears as an oddity. First of all, it's not funny, I found it pretty cleverly made and you don't get the psychotronic feeling that you usually get viewing Troma movies. Beeing a compulsive buyer, I get anything I can find with the Troma label. When I saw that one, I had never heard about it before, so I watched it with fresh eyes. I must admit that the plot, though interesting, is losing itself into too many various directions. First of all, you understand that the main character is in Vietnam during the war on a killing rampage. He.
