I'm an avid Collective Soul fan so I'm pretty bias, however it's an excellent CD. I saw them live several times and they alway put on a good show and play to the bitter end. For those who are fans of Collective Soul, this is a really good CD from their early years once they'd gotten popular. Most folks are familiar with the song "Gel" and it's on this CD as well as several of there other hits. This is definitel a good buy.
This is Colloctive Soul's second and best album. Every song on this album rules! There are not many albums out there that one can say every tune is great! Excellent lyrics, tight tunes and awesone guitar work make this one of the finest rock albums of all time! No Kidding!
With singles like "She Gathers Rain", "Smashing Young Man" and "The World I Know", this is, by far, the best album ever put out by Collective Soul. After a solid first album, they outdid themselves with this one..
I love this CD - this is the first live concert I saw, with my first serious boyfriend, this is one of my all time favorite CD's, it brings back so many memories.
I've listened to Collective Soul since the song "Shine" came out, and this CD is a real gem from beginning to end. Track favorites include "Simple" and "Gel". Wonderfully written music and lyrics. This CD tends to get played over and over in the car CD player!A good selection for first time Collective Soul listeners.
Collective Soul is a fantastic band and this is possibly their best CD. There is not a song on the CD I would skip while listening to it. That's a rare thing. Most CD's have at least one dud on them, but not this one. Songs range from the introspective and mellow like "World I Know" to grungy-rock type on "Where the River Flows". Buy this CD; you won't be sorry!!
The music of this band (this CD in particular) is a wonderful blend of rock and orchestral music (World I Know). The music has the ability to connect with their listeners on an instinctive level. Altough the theme of the songs on this CD are addressing everyday issues that evoke intense emotional responses in young people, it does so in a way that shows all that there are always positive ways to approach and to respond to these issues. The beat of the music can be felt deep in your bones whether played at an ear-splitting volume or at a more moderate level. I enjoy this cd for the relatively upbeat tone and the wonderful use music and their creative use of words to convey the group's messages. Although not their first CD, the music of this cd projected Collective Soul firmly into the nation's limelight. It connects with the more mature age goups, as well as the younger crowd. Nothing generational about this music! There is a reason this cd continues to receive air time with most radio station across the nation. I would and do recommend the album to everyone who has not listened to Collective Soul.
I HAD NEVER HEARD OF THEM UNTIL MY 23 YEAR OLD SON PLAYED IT IN HIGH SCHOOL WITH A FRIEND FOR A SCHOOL PROJECT AND I HAVE LOVED THE SONG DECEMBER EVER SINCE. THAT IS WHY I BOUGHT IT FOR THAT SONG, THE OTHER R NICE IT IS JUST MY FAV
This is my favorite Collective Soul album. Probably one of the more popular ones next to Hints, Allegations and Things Left Unsaid. Five hit singles include "The World I Know", "Smashing Young Man", "December", "Where the River Flows", and "Gel". All except "Gel" were #1 Mainstream Rock Hits. Overall the album is great from beginning to end.
It's Collective Soul! These guys are amazing. They mix all great musical styles to make a sound of their own. Think - Classic Queen - meets - AC/DC - meets - Nirvana. Ed Roland's vocals are bang on and the rest of the band is fully behind him. Good stuff... period.
First time I saw video on MTV in late 90`s. It was video for a song "The World I Know" - it was a very good song. I loved it! Actually I`ve bought this CD just for this song. And I`ll tell you something ... I`m not disapointed with this album. It`s really great!!
Their self titled album is good hard edged guitar ! A must have for the fan
