Cold Mountain (2004, DVD)

I saw it in Countryside magazine.It was my type of movie.This person shipped it very fast to me.I recommend this person as a good ebayer!

I would actually rate this movie - very good. It would be excellent if the ending were different. I am a sucker for a happy ending, so I wish the ending had been a little different. Renee Z. steals this show, and I am not her biggest fan, but she is great in this.

I saw this movie and realy liked it. I like all of the actors in it. It is a movie that I would watch many times so that is why I decided to but it.

This is a lovely and horrific film all in one. The civil war battles and the depiction of the "homeland security" are realistic and show the true cruelty and reality of the effects not only on the men who were involved in the actual battles, but the people left at home. I think the actresses, one and all, were truly par excellente, as well as the male actors. The scenery was beautiful. This is a beautiful, well thought out period movie. Heart wrenching as it is, it is a classic that deserved all the acolades that it has and still receives.

I love the movie. One that I want to own. So I can watch it over went I feel like it. I can watch it over and over. The actor are will great. One of the best movie I seem in a long time.

I heard so many people talk about how good it was but it was not as good as that.

The flashbacks and all the jumping around from past to present was really distracting. The story line could have been so much better without it.

I liked it so much I wanted to have a copy to see when ever I wanted too it's excelent and compared to the movies I saw this year they suffer by comparison.
Not really for kids 13 or under. It has some unnerving sex.

All the academy awards for this film tell the whole thing! I was originally struck by Zellweger's performance, and still am! This is a film that the
family will pull out of the stack and view over and over, for the attention to detail assures that you will generally see something you didn't see the last time you watched it.

This movie is an emotional rollacoaster ride. Buy a box of kleenex because you will need them. The civil war fighting scenes are amazing and heartbreaking at the same time. The love between the two main characters portrayed by Jude Law and Nicole Kidman will take your breath away. I recomend this movie to anyone.

I love this movie and found, that even with the shipping included, I could buy the movie almost as inexpensive as the rent price would be. I like it well enough to watch it several times and also lend it out to my friends and daughters at no additional cost to them.

I really enjoyed this movie and wanted to be able to see it over and over again. The story line is very quite good,and I like this time of history for a good story. The ending was so unexpected.. great book and great movie... most time that is not the case.

I got in the middle of the movie late one night, and wanted to see it in its entirity. I decided to bid for it and did. The FIRST time I bid it took so long to get that I figured it wasn't coming so I bid and won another auction for it. I now have two copies and must say it was worth the wait. VERY entertaining movie and will always current because of the time period it portrays. I recommend the movie.

I really like this movie, Especially the part Renee Zelwinger plays. I am a civil war buff and this movie shows the home side of things not just the combat parts.

I bought this movie, thinking it looked like a great movie. I do like to watch historical movies set in any time. I just did not like this one at all. I think part of the problem was Nicole Kidman. Renee Zellwegger did a great job in the movie. I did think it had a good story line, but just not what I expected, I borrowed the movie to a friend of mine and she really liked it, so I gave it to her. But as the rest of the reviewers said they all liked it, so don't take my opinion to highly, I just wanted to add my thoughts.

Ada Monroe (Nicole Kidman), Inman (Jude Law), and Ruby Tuewes (Renee Zellweger) are the principal characters of this epic story in the little mountain village of Cold Mountain, North Carolina during the Civil War. Ada has just moved to Cold Mountain from Charleston with her preacher father (Donald Sutherland). Inman is one of several workers on his new church. There is an almost immediate attraction between Ada and Inman. But then the war breaks out, and every grown man must enlist and go.

The story revolves about Inman's impossible attempt to return to his newfound love, Ada. He endures so many tragedies including:
(a)the battle of Pittsburg where he barely escapes and deserts the Confederate army.
(b)a preacher (Philip Seymour Hoffman)who was attempting to kill his black, pregnant mistress
(c)Southern bounty hunters who are pursuing deserters and lock him up with others in a chain gang.
(d) an old woman who has nothing to live on and finally kills her last goat right on the screen for us to see
(e) a young widow (Natalie Portman) with a baby who befriends him but then is raped by passing Yankee soldiers.

Meanwhile, Ada, who has never done anything that a lady would not do, is confronted with running a farm with practically no food and no help. Enter Ruby Tuewes, who has the ability to completely run a farm. The two are a team and together make it with lots of blood, sweat, and tears during the war years. But there are interruptions by scalawags that would like to marry Ada and then Ruby's father returns out of the blue--a deserter that gets them in trouble because they have protected him.

The movie ends on a bittersweet note but with hope for the future, as most war movies do. And Inman does make it back eventually.

Renee Zellweger is the real star of the movie. She played the tomboy Ruby to the hilt and won Best Supporting Actress of 2003. Once she enters the story, she takes over in a character that she has never played before. She is totally into this role, and I was very impressed by her performance.

Nicole Kidman and Jude Law were both nominated for the main acting awards but did not win. They were remarkable in their roles as well. The movie also was nominated for Best Cinematography and Best Scoring. Two songs from the movie were nominated--"Scarlet Tide" and "You Will Be My Ain True Love", but neither won.

An extra disk of special features is included with this DVD, and if you are interested in mountain music, it explains how it came to be and thrives today.

I enjoyed this movie very much: it reminded me what movies used to be - entertaining. All the actors were excellent. It was rather sad and ended on a sad note but I feel it portrayed difficult times and real life during the Civil War without sugar coating. It was most entertaining and carried me to another time - just for a while.
