This book is really amazing! Melody Beattie writes so down to earth....The way she says things really makes absolute sense and I see myself, others and my life so clearly....It has helped me a great deal. I think most people could benefit from reading it. She is very kind and nonjudgemental about her observations and real life experiences.
This book opened my eyes to how codependent I was. The only problem is the 12-step program was really pushed. This program has a negative connotation to some people.
great for self esteem, to put things in perspective, and move forward from difficult situations! Very practical and on the dot about characteristics of a codependent person. Reassures the reader that there is hope and that with some work and dedication one can take control of their life and make decisions that will allow one to take care of themselves! Definitely recommend this book!
I loved the book. I got this book a couple of weeks ago; it was just exactly what I needed!!! The book was in perfect shape! Thank you! I have a personal growth instructor helping me, and he advised me to read it that was a wonderful book to read! I have read others and this one was by far the most "cut to the case”. It covers many actions we do to get results we don't want! There are short test and example stories that really help! In the end of the book it goes over many resources to find additional help including groups and books!
This is a classic 'must read' for anyone who loves an addict and wants to stay healthy. Melody Beattie shares her experience, strength and hope from the heart. She has gone on to write other books which continue to affirm that pain in life is inevitable but suffering is optional. We don't have to lose ourselves in the delusions of others or be a victim or a martyr. Serenity is not life outside the storm...it's the calm eye at the center.
