Cobra HH 38WX Not the Best Cobra Product

I purchased 2 One from Ebay and another from a local Truck Stop. I liked the design of the unit. It looked sharp and the weather radio worked well but not as sensitive as a real weather radio but that is OK. It functioned properly.
Both units I had would squeak and squalk when first turned on. If you "tap" it with the heal of your hand it would go away. The unit would make 4.5 watts on 13.8 volts. 3.9 watts on 12V and 2.6 watts on NIMH 10.8 Volts.
However I was disappointed in the reception of the unit. Unless you were 500ft away from a vehicle would you hear a moderate signal. I was sitting inside the PILOT Truck Stop eatting lunch and heard a lot of activity from the yard but go 1/2 mile down the road the activity was gone!
The ICING ON THE CAKE is that my Pro-95 Realistic Scanner had a more sensitive CB receiver that an ACTUAL Cb Receiver. It would pickup signals the CXobra 38 would miss completely WITH STOCK ANTENNAS.
I was disappointed in the unit. I took it on vacation hoping to hear truckers on I-95 at least 1/2 mile from me but The unit stayed quiescent with low level squelch noise. If I could read the license plate I could hear the truck in front of me NO LIE!
If you need a walkie talkie to talk around 1000ft circle it is an OUTSTANDING and SHARP looking unit... Otherwise I think Cobra missed the mark on this one.
Both of my radios were the same as the 1st one evenually died from one squell too much and I bought another. Unfortunately the CB market is drying up and that stuff is getting harder to find as Midland is down to 2 mobile models.
I guess I will do the Ham Thing now since Morse code is gone. Most of the Hobby Cbers are on 75 meters.
