  Cinderella Man Collector's Edition DVD
Review created: 02/01/07

The reason why I bought this version of Cinderella Man is that it is loaded with more about Jim Braddock and how Russell Crowe transformed himself into the role. Also, Cinderella Man is a movie not about boxing but about life. How one man who life knocks down during the depression managers to get up and fight back if not for himself then for his family. It transends the boxing genre to a whole different level.

Cinderella Man: An Inspirational and Entertaining Sports Movie
Review created: 02/19/06
by: Bryan_Carey-- a member of Epinions and Advisor in Movies

Pros:
Giamatti, Howard, Crowe, and Zellweger in that order

Cons:
Some parts seemed very similar to other boxing movies; Basically predictable

Movies about the sport of boxing are often very action- packed and memorable and they often feature a comeback story where the underdog ends up the champion when the final bell rings. The year 2004 brought us another boxing film and this one follows much of the same path of other films in its genre with a few slight differences. The movie is Cinderella Man, a Ron Howard film. Movie Facts: Rating: PG- 13 Format: Color Director: Ron Howard Screenplay/Writing Credits: Cliff Hollingsworth Theatrical Release Date: June 3, 2005 Movie Length: 144 Minutes Starring: Russell Crowe, Paul Giamatti,...

Pros:
Acting, set design, great story, impressive cinematography, very tight script

Cons:
none

While filming the Academy Award winning movie A Beautiful Mind, Russell Crowe and Ron Howard began discussing a screenplay that Crowe had grown very fond of. It was a bout a boxer during the Great Depression, who had so much heart, that it seemed like it would be great material for a major motion picture. It took him a while, but he got Howard on board, as well as Producer Penny Marshall who had done many films in the area where the main character had gown up. That story of course, was to become Cinderella Man, a true to life story of James J. Braddock. With those three on board from the...

Cinderella Man ...The Stuff That Dreams Are Made Of
Review created: 06/07/05

Pros:
Russell Crowe. No ones needs to say more.

Cons:
There is no completely naked shot of Russell Crowe.

This is the story of Depression-era fighter and folk hero Jim Braddock, who fought heavyweight champ Max Baer in a 15-round slugfest in 1935. This is the stuff that dreams are made of. This is an academy-award deserving movie, with a very talented Russell Crowe, who despite his media-related personality problems, always shines on the big screen. I normally don t list the cast of the movie I am reviewing, but I feel the cast in Cinderella Man deserves mention. Cast overview: Russell Crowe Jim Braddock Ren e Zellweger Mae Braddock Paul Giamatti Joe Gould Craig Bierko Max Baer Paddy...

Russell Crowe knows no fear in Cinderella Man (2005)

Pros:
Makes us appreciate what we have. Russell Crowe is astounding.

Cons:
Iffy play by Zellwegger

I hate using the words "brilliant performance". If I do, it's usually in the Pros and Cons section. Just as a quick and easy way of saying "Yeah, sure, the actor did a good job." But in the actual review, where all the detail and the truth comes out, I find that to be kind of a strong expression. Far as that goes, I hate using the word "brilliant" at all. Save that word for pretentious boring films, I'm perfectly happy with a performance that is "intense", "hilarious", or "exciting". Well, when I was watching Russell Crowe in Cinderella Man, I could think of nothing more apt to describe his...

  Braddock To The Bone
Review created: 07/14/05
by: pmills1210-- a member of Epinions and Advisor in Movies

Pros:
Russell Crowe, Renee Zellweger, Paul Giamatti, story, direction

Cons:
Some scenes are slow and repetitive

The boxing career of James J. Braddock is one that could be compared to that of Rocky Balboa. Braddock, though, was a real boxer who was down on his luck until fate played a hand. One newspaper writer even described Braddock as the "Cinderella Man," which is also the title of Ron Howard's account of the rise, fall, and return of a man who became a contender for boxing's heavyweight title. Russell Crowe stars as Braddock, a boxer who was a rising star in the days before the Great Depression. He commanded a big purse, which made life comfortable for himself and his children. However, he...
