Chasing Amy The Criterion Collection presents another classic dark comedy: Chasing Amy. If you’ve never seen this – do yourself a favor and pay tribute to the great Kevin Smith. Like all Kevin Smith movies – Chasing Amy combines unique production with witty and sarcastic humor and dialogue and a cast of not-quite-A-list-actors-who-get-the-job-done (does that make sense?!).
In fact, the best compliment I can pay to Chasing Amy is this: Ben Affleck has a major role in the film… and I still like it!! I really despise Mr. Ben Affleck, but somehow he is rather good in this movie.
From the DVD box: Chasing Amy is the third installment in the “New Jersey Trilogy” from Award-Winning writer/director Kevin Smith (Clerks, Mallrats, Dogma). Cult comic-book artist Holden (Ben Affleck) falls in love with fellow artist Alyssa (Joey Lauren Adams), only to be thwarted by her sexuality, the disdain of his best friend Banky (Jason Lee), and his misgivings about himself. Filled with Smith’s unique ear for dialogue and insight into relationships, Chasing Amy offers a thoughtful, funny look at how perceptions alter lives, and how obsession and self-doubt skew reality.
When handsome young comic book creator Holden McNeil (Ben Affleck) meets cute young comic book creator Alyssa Jones (Joey Lauren Adams), romance seems preordained. But Holden is soon confronted with Alyssa's complex sexual history, as well as his friend and colleague Banky's (Jason Lee) conflicted and enraged response to the affair. Despite the seriousness of the issues, director Kevin Smith keeps the laughs coming, even as Holden goes through hell and grows up.
I really thought it was a strong movie. I like finding stuff that flies under the radar, but is still a satisfying little gem. No real review stuff here, only because I've been in a similar situation and I can relate to the confused atmosphere of the film. I'll tell you one thing though - I fell half in love with Joey Lauren Adams. Ben Affleck has made it but I don't know why she isn't a bigger star.
I decided to buy Chasing Amy, as it was the only Kevin Smith movie I haven't seen. It didn't disappoint. Rife with drama, turmoil, and excellent discussions about relationships, sexuality, and gender stereotypes, Chasing Amy left me with so much to say. I loved the movie, but beware: Holden McNeil is the biggest tool on screen. Ha, no seriously. Awesome movie. Go see it.
I am a fan of Kevin Smith films. I had not seen Chasing Amy prior to my purchase. However, I had heard rave reviews from several people. My curiosity finally won out. This film is in my opinion, Smith's most cerebral entry in the "Buddy Film" group. Jay and Silent Bob even enhance the plot line. As always, there are a few inside references to characters from the previous films. While not as comedic as the rest of the series, Chasing Amy is a thoroughly enjoyable piece on its own. Kevin Smith even gets a surprisingly tight performance from Ben Affleck and Jason Lee. This is a winner on every level!
Dvd was in good shape as described and arrived in a timely manner, but seller doesn't respond to emails and refuses to leave feedback weeks & weeks after the transaction was completed. I promptly left feedback and have sent this seller 3 messages requesting the same but no response & no feedback. Poor business in that regard, otherwise no complaints
This is a good chick flick that us guys can make it thru also. From one of my favorite director's Kevin Smith who also did Clerks 1 @ 2, Dogma, Mallrats and more. If you havn't seen it, I would say its worth checking out.
Kevin Smith, the Director and an actor in "Chasing Amy" is one of my favorite Directors. I pretty much worship the guy. I bought the DVD to help fill in my collection of Kevin's movies. "Chasing Amy" is one of his finest. I love all the actors--and as a director, Kevin seems to be able to get performances out of actors like Ben Affleck that other directors just don't always seem to be able to do. Kevin never gives himself enough credit, but I think anyone who hasn't seen this movie is seriously depriving themselves of the chance to see a fine comedy with some excellent acting, wonderful writing (also by Kevin Smith)and a movie that will make you laugh and cry. Don't walk, run to the nearest video outlet and rent it, if you haven't already seen it. You're in for a real treat.
Again, Kevin Smith is the King of indy films! What's great about this movie is the guy does NOT get the girl in the end - more aptly mirroring real life. Joey Lauren Adams does a great job and the chemistry between Ben Affleck and Jason Lee is amazing! I recommend this movie to any die hard K. Smith fan; of course if you're a die hard fan, then you already own this movie!
I love the fact that Kevin Smith is a wordsmith unlike any other. He mixes smart, intelligent dialog with the raunchiest humor you can imagine. With this movie he shows that love can be found in places you would never imagine to find it. You see the tale of love in the sexual and the emotional. In this movie you can find the hardships of knowing everyone in a small town climate. You realize that it's really hard to get away from the rumors and hear say of small town life. Watch this movie if you like anything else Kevin Smith has done.
In the product description, the seller stated that this DVD was "new" even though the wrapping was removed. However, once I received it I noticed a scratch across the DVD which the seller did not disclose. It was clearly not in "new" condition.

My favorite Kevin Smith movie, its wonderfully funny. If you haven't ever seen any Kevin Smith movies this shouldn't be your first but I would suggest that you see them all they are by far some of the best movies, they are brilliantly funny.
Bought it for a friend who was looking for it. As far as i know she is happy with the movie and it was mailed in good protective packaging. Thank you Ebay!
I bought this movie because I like Jay and Silent Bob. They were hardly in it. I was very disappointed. It had maybe ten minutes of good entertainment. The only reason to buy this would be to simply add on to a collection.

Chasin' Gay Me

Pros: Temerity.
Cons: Timorousness.
Chasin' Gay Me might be a better title for this film than Chasing Amy, but perhaps the best title of all would be Fixing the Lesbian. "There's a twenty-dollar bill in the middle of a four-way intersection," says Banky (Jason Lee), the mind-numbing spokesman for homophobia in Chasing Amy. "To the left is Santa Claus; to the right is the Easter Bunny; below is a lipstick lesbian; and above is a man-hating dyke. Who's going to get the twenty-dollar bill?" Banky poses this question to Holden (Ben Affleck), his roommate, business partner, and best friend. Not incidentally, Holden is dating a woman.
Chasing Amy is a perfect relationship mess. I ve seen it four hours before jumping in a relationship that has not been promising anything in the beginning, started more as a joke just to have myself some good time, but that is leading into phase where I have to start thinking and learning some shocking truth about my girlfriend already. Life would be much easier if we had not had to think of certain things, if we could float and be happy with that, if waking up with the person you love meant going to bed with them in the end of the day. God, though, played a trick on us and gave human beings..

I'm Chasing Amy once Melinda and I break up

Pros: 9/10
Cons: 1/10
Chasing Amy (1997) has the characteristics of every movie written and directed by Kevin Smith------mediocre acting, barely-above-average direction, brilliant dialogue and furtive humor. It attempts to connect with the viewer by attacking an intensely personal subject-----relationships. Smith, expectedly, manages to impress for Chasing Amy's first nine-tenths-----then he follows everything up with an shockingly unlikely climax, nearly blowing the film to pieces. It's difficult to fault the actors for their off-key and intangible performances. While Smith's dialogue is humorous and alluring, it.

Just Your Average Boy-Meets-Lesbian Love Story

Pros: A hilarious and witty love story. Realistic dialog.
Cons: Nasty subject matter and heavy profanity is certainly not for everyone.
Kevin Smith, the writer/director behind Clerks and Mallrats is certainly an acquired taste. His dialog explodes with offensive remarks and profanity and he has a blunt, in-your-face style that is often unsettling to watch. But, if you can get past the four-letter words, the pornographic conversations, and the occasional trespasses into the boundaries of bad taste, there is actually some clever and humorous magic to be found. Smith is a comic genius because he is able to directly tap into a generation of young, care-free slackers whose only motivations seem to be rebellion and the relentless...

Kevin Smith's Best Movie

Pros: everything
Cons: well, the fact that people like his other flicks over this one.
I'm not the hugest fan of Kevin Smith. Clerks? Grossly overrated and self-indulgent. Mallrats? Just plain bad and silly. But then he had the one two punch of Dogma a flawed film to be sure, but one that made an attempt at saying something and Chasing Amy his most accomplished, mature, and interesting film to date. The irony of an overweight slacker from the armpit of our nation (New Jersey) making one of the most honest portrayals about 90's sexuality is just too funny and perfect for words. More lauded movies(Love
