In Cast Away Tom Hanks plays an incredible role, for more than an hour he's the only person you see stranded on an island all by himself. It's a great story about survival as only an actor as great as Tom Hanks could pull off. However, when he hits the big wave and at last makes it off the island, you should just turn it off and call that the ending....
If you haven't seen this movie, I highly recommend that you do. Tom Hanks made Wilson come to life. The man is a very talented actor. However....What was in the box? I would love to know that.
Cast Away - I thought this movie was excellent. Every time I see it, I like it more. I thought it was very interesting what this man had to go through for survival. Then to find out that the only thing that kept him going thought all of it is gone. Even that damn volleyball, why did that have to float away?
it simply is the collection to have if you want to truly know every aspect of production on this movie, every idea, every change of detail(or increase)in the story. it's all here.
This item was received in good condition. The shipment time was a little bit long, but we were just adding a copy to our movie files, so that was not a problem.
This was a great purchase and in great condition like new and it shipped very fast and thats what I love most is good quality and fast shipping thanks so much. Angel
I BELIVE THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES TOM HANKS EVER DID AND HE DID MANY THIS IS MY FAVORITE MOVIE I BELIVE OF ALL TIME,I HAD THIS ON VHS AND NOW NEEDED IT ON DVD.GREAT MOVIE THANX
My Mom is amazing, the kind of mother that after 27 years of taking care of me still continues to in so many ways. She loves movies and instilled this love onto my sister and I. One of her favorite movies of all time is Cast Away. She had a VHS copy of it and over time, wore it out. She asked for a DVD version of it for Mother's Day. This movie is impossible to find in stores. I eventually found it on Best Buy's website for close to $30 with shipping and tax. I was elated when I found a new, unopened version on DVD all for a total of about $8. In no way was I trying to skimp on a Mother's Day present, but now I have more money in my budget to treat her to brunch and some flowers.
I bought the Cast Away DVD, because we really like this movie, and it was offered at a great price. The things I dislike about this purchase are two-fold: (1) I would have preferred the full screen version, and (2) there is one point in the DVD where the movie blanks out, and there are lines running through it. I think this product is a good value for the price, however, I will replace it with a new full-screen version.
I bought this for a Christmas gift so can't give my own review, but I do know that my daughter was wanting it, had seen it and liked it, so now she has it.
This is one of Tom Hanks best films yet! I certainly enjoyed it.
Tom Hanks plays a play called Chuck Noland who works for Federal Express, who's always on the go at a moment's notice. He's called away for business on Christmas night and his girlfriend and he have Christmas in their car. When he leaves the car the last thing he says to her is that he'll be right back. Well that doesn't happen. The plane ends up in an unexpected storm, they lose radio contact, they go off course and it crashes. Chuck is the sole survivor of the crash, and washes ashore of a deserted island. While stranded there, he must learn how to survive in the wilderness by himself.
Tom Hanks is Chuck Noland, a man in a hurry. His job for Federal Express has him traveling the world on a moment's notice, exhorting the company's employees to speed things up--"never turn your back on the clock." When he's suddenly called away for business on Christmas night, his tolerant longtime girlfriend Kelly (Helen Hunt) drives him to the airport. They have their Christmas in the car--and Chuck plunks an engagement ring into her lap right before he gets on the plane, telling her, "I'll be right back." But an unexpected storm cuts the plane's crew off from radio contact and blows them off course. Chuck is the sole survivor of the resulting crash, and washes up on a completely deserted island. Stranded there, he must give up everything that he once took for granted and learn how to survive all alone in the wilderness. From director Robert Zemeckis, CAST AWAY is a story of adventure and discovery surrounding one man's will to stay alive.
I loved the movie on a personal level... I think if you look deep down everyone can kinda relate to the loneliness of the role. Tom Hanks is probably one of the greatest actors in history and he puts a lot into this role. I recommended it 100%. Well done Mr Hanks!

Pros: the cast
Cons: the ending
After being stuck here in Arkansas by the wonderful ice storm that was dropped on us, Brandon and I went to the movies last night to see CAST AWAY. I had been looking forward to seeing this movie for quite sometime and this movie was not at all what I expected it to be. I can t exactly put into words what I was expecting but this movie left me in awe. To be quite honest I am not a big TOM HANKS fan, but after this movie he does have more respect from me than he had in the past. The cast was a small one to say the least and in my opinion the characters were excellent. The Main Cast: Tom Hanks..

Pros: Tom Hanks. Some island bits. Lots of it is pretty.
Cons: Screenplay. That it thinks it's a movie.
A certain professor once told me that purposeful symbolism is at best insulting, and at worst just plain stupid, but it s ineffectual either way. I don t think I ever really got the full force of his idea until I watched Cast Away , a movie so filled to bursting with what it thinks are clever signs, symbols, and metaphors, that it shoves down your throat, it is simply impossible to take seriously. It s also a movie without the slightest respect for the intelligence of its audience (notice if you will that the trailers told you absolutely everything there was to know, and made seeing the film..

Pros: Hanks, Hunt, thinking movie
Cons: long, a few boring parts
I wasn t too sure about watching this movie because I had heard that it was pretty boring, but I took the chance anyway and rented it from Netflix. Sitting down with a friend one night, I was pleasantly surprised with this movie. Yes, there were times that the movie lagged and it got boring, but it wasn t unbearable. It actually made you think about your life and what is important to you. MAIN CHARACTERS Tom Hanks... Chuck Noland Helen Hunt... Kelly Frears Wilson Volleyball... Wilson Nick Searcy... Stan Chris North... Jerry Lovett Lari White... Bettina Peterson Geoffrey Blake... Maynard...

Daydreaming for the Imagination-Impaired

Pros: Tom Hanks' plane crashes.<BR/>
Cons: Tom Hanks survives.
I simply don't understand you people. Weren't you ever dragged to church by your parents? Made to sit through an awards ceremony at your school? Forced to watch your father emcee a fundraiser? Obliged to endure your little sister's piano recital? Tortured by the repetitive lectures of an inept teacher? And what on earth do you folks do in such situations? Have you discovered how to nap with your eyes open? Is that why you don't know how to daydream without the assistance of a formulaic novel or a schmaltzy movie? I couldn't even begin to count the hours of my life that I've spent thinking...

Pros: Acting just doesn't get much better.
Cons: None
It is rare to see acting of this caliber. Tom Hanks has become such a great actor over the years! He just keeps getting better with each new movie. From movies like BIG
