A Slim and Stylish Camera For People On The Go EX-S600

Hi eBay shoppers, I just had to write a review on this fabulous camera. As you can see from my other reviews, I've been a loyal Canon digital camera user but when I saw this baby at the eBay Live 2006 show and it's many great features, I had to get a hold of one to test myself. Conclusion: this is one of the best inexpensive digital cameras I have ever used.

The features I like the most are (1) really long battery life (not quite up to the 300 pictures as quoted but still more than the Canon I had), (2) anti-shake mode - great for those days w/too much coffee! (3) 2.2" LCD Display as well as High Quality MPEG-4 movies with stabilizer and (4) 6 Megapixel CCD + 3X optical zoom.

- Image resolution up to 2816 x 2112
- 3x Optical zoom
- Anti-Shake digital signal processor (DSP) for Photo Mode
- New Best Shot modes, including "Old Photo"
- Super Life Battery for up to 300 shots on a single charge
- Continuous flash for 3 consecutive shots
- Super bright LCD produces an impressive luminance of 1200 cd/m
- 22 different scene selections available via Best Shot function
- PictBridge compatible
- 3 1/2" W x 2 1/4" H x 13/16" D
- Uses rechargeable Li-Ion battery
- Uses SD(tm) or MMC memory
- Includes 8.3MB built-in flash memory, rechargeable Li-Ion battery, USB and AV cables, AC adapter, strap, and software

All in all, a great camera for the money with many great features. Buy one and you won't be disappointed!

  Nice little Camera

I was shopping for a new digital camera and stopped into our local Radio Shack to do some touch and feel. Of all the cameras on display, this little gem caught my attention. The display screen was just the right size. The camera size was small but easily handled. This was definitely my next digital camera. I went home and jumped on the web to do my research. I read lots of "fair" reviews on image quality and fumble fingered horrors but all-in-all, good reviews. I hopped to eBay and got a great purchase price from a seller out of Canada. When the camera arrived, it was exactly what I was looking for. The menu system is easy to navigate. There are lots of image resolution choices from VGA (eBay photos) to high end printing solutions. Nearly all manual settings are there if you want to experiment. I enjoy the quick startup. Within about 2 seconds, you are ready to shoot. There is a good variety of unique camera sounds to use. The startup screen can have one of your favorite pictures displayed, use the Exilim display, or have nothing displayed except what is coming through the lens. The quality of the pictures is good. With my previous digital camera, I had to use the Auto Smart Fix feature in Photoshop Elements nearly everytime to get reasonable picture quality. The pictures from this little guy look worse when I try the Auto Smart Fix features. Figure that one out all those people who said the image quality was not so good on this camera. This is not a digital SLR costing $1000's of dollars, but then again, for a quick aim and shoot digital with extras, it performs pretty good. The docking system works great. The flash recovery time is a little longer than I like but tolerable. The macro features create a pleasant product and are simple to use. I am not one for using the Best Shot modes on digital cameras, but this one has some good ones. I took some fireworks photos over the 4th of July using the fireworks Best Shot feature. The pictures were amazing. I sent some to my local newspaper and they thought I was using one of those expensive cameras I mentioned above. When I showed them the camera, they couldn't believe it. I do suggest before you buy one, find a counter display model and hold it first. It is small. This camera is not ment for a person with large hands. I also suggest you always use the wrist strap as intented. One other issue, you will need to buy some additional memory. I suggest 1 GB size minimum, but when you do, be sure to get a memory card that advertises data speeds exceeding 10 MB per second. Those cheap slow/standard memory cards will not allow HD quality video to be taken and yes this camera takes video with sound in length up to the size of the available memory. The video still works fine with slower memory cards, but the video quality will not be what you may expect. I do not have anything negative to say about this camera. You will not go wrong with this little guy.

  Damaged Exilim
Review created: 09/05/08
by:

Well, I have experience with this camera, that's why I wanted it. Unfortunately, when it arrived, it was defective. There's damage to the LCD display. The seller claims it was in the item description but I still can't find it when I pull up the description. I'm stuck with a camera that has a damaged area in the upper left corner of the LCD display, but hoping that I can work around it. I'm disappointed with the seller, and unfortunately, with the camera, but hoping for the best. BUYERS BEWARE!!!

Casio "wearable" 6.0 MP camera has loads of features!
Review created: 07/07/08
by:

Since I had already owned the 5.0 Megapixel version of this camera, I thought I knew pretty much what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the 6.0 Megapixel version uses a faster microcontroller so it starts much faster and takes less time to capture an image. This camera has it all: Movie mode, with audio, lots of useful presets that Casio calls "Best Shots". Yet, plenty of manual settings are available for those who know how to take advantage of them. The body of the camera is all metal on a metal sub-frame. It feels heavy and substantial, in spite of being the second thinnest camera line on the market. Battery life is excellent and the cosmetics of the thing make it truly wearable. Two thumbs up! Now I hope Casio steals a page from Samsung's book and builds their next model with a wider zoom range and no lens protrusion... while maintaining the wonderfully thin case. ;-)

Nice camera - a true point and shoot
Review created: 06/17/08

I bought this camera for my wife who, quite frankly is a little intimidated by my camera and she loves it! It is ultra slim and feels very solid in the hand and is very simple to operate and the pictures with auto settings in place are very good. You can, if you are so inclined, select one of a seemingly endless supply of optional set-ups for scenery, portrait, documents, etc. Features are well-placed and intuitive and the cradle for keeping the battery charged is the perfect way to always know where it is. We are impressed!!

  Casio EXILIM EX-S600 is Remarkable

I've been an amateur photographer since 1958 and have owned many cameras. My current digital is a prosumer model but it is bulky. I wanted a nice point and shoot that would fit in a shirt pocket. Extensive features were not important.

However, I am surprised and pleased at the extent of features in this tiny camera. Even better, complex settings are easy to get to through a very well thought out menu system and flexible button use. And the settings are arranged in a way that one doesn't need to carry the manual with you. Very nice camera.

  Very pleased with purchase!
Review created: 10/02/07

I am IN LOVE with this camera! I had a Minolta Dimage camera before this one and it was ok, but the Casio Exilim Card is so much better. It is very easy to use, it doesn't have all of those funny knobs to change the flash ect.. It also has a function that you just press one button the view all of your pictures and the quality is fantastic. What I really love about it is that when you are taking a picture in a dark place such as a night club where you really can't see the screen you just touch the take picture button and it shines a light(not the flash) on the object so you can actually see what you are photographing. I also love how this camera is very compact. You can fit it in your pocket without any unsightly bulges. I highly reccomend this camera for someone that wants a good, compact camera that doesn't want to spend lots of money.

What a great camera, the EX-S600 Casio
Review created: 09/01/07

What a great camera, very small, not to small, just comfortable, can fit into your jeans pocket, but has enough bulk to feel it there. You know what I mean. Has all and more of the whistles you could ever need. I did some checking before I purchased a camera, and EX-S600 kept coming up with high scores. Plus the fact that I purchased a NEW one for under $ 86.00 on eBay, made it even better for me.

This small camera is large on features. It's easy to use and takes great pictures. The only problem I have is small buttons and large fingers. Be careful about putting it in a shirt pocket and never put it in a rear pants pocket.

  Best camera for the money!

I've been a photographer for over 20 years- switching to digital was painful for me. This Casio ex-s600 is my fourth digital. It's the only one so far that has met with my high expectations. The Casio Exilim's with higher MPs do NOT produce sharper images. Even the 10 MP Casio produces very grainy images. This camera, although it is no longer made, is still my favorite by far. It is an excellent point and shoot camera- indoors, low light, shade and moving objects!

This was my fifth camera in a time span of a year and a half! All the other ones have been stolen and one camera had the lens damaged due to high humidity ( this can happen to all cameras). In short, this camera is excellent, the best I have ever used. very simple to use and all the different best shot modes are great! I love this camera!

  Great Little Camera
Review created: 04/03/07
by:
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I love how small it and durable this little camera is. It even fits in the back of a really tight pair of jeans. Because it's so small I take it everywhere and take more pictures than normal.

I also like how easy it is to upload pictures. You just set the camera in the dock and hit enter. It's that easy.

The quality of the pictures is also really good. At first I wanted something with higher megapixels, but this one was in my price range and I have been very happy with the resolution.

The battery lasts quite a while.

The only thing I don't like is the delay when snapping a picture. Other than that I absolutely love this camera.

I bought a camera 1 month ago when I open the box I was desapointed, I don't know what to do with it because of malfunction. So I keep it and I won't feel good to buy it to someone else or give it like donation. Please, ask the sellers to give more info about their products... please. I decide to buy it is because I need a digital camera. That's all.

This camera looks great. It maybe one of the most stylish available but for 6 mega pixles it doesn't take great pictures. if you want easy options this camera has them. The Ebay option is one of the best with auto macro mode for close ups. But for great indoor, low light photos, look into Casio's 7.2 megapixle camera or get a 6.0 from Canon or Sony.
