This is where ALL the famous lines came from! "Here's Looking at You Kid" or "Loiue, this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship!" and many more. A must see for its wittiness, it's historic importance specially at the time of war.

  CASABLANCA - A Best Loved Film 1942

CASABLANCA - A Best Loved Film 1942 - This is surely an all time favorite of many people although I don't think it is quite up there with Gone With the Wind. This 1942 drama received Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Director(Michael Curtiz), and Best Screenplay. It was also nominated for but did not win, Best Actor (Humphrey Bogart), Best Supporting Actor (Claude Rains), Best Cinematography, Best Musical Score(Max Steiner)and best editing. Those are some pretty big accomplishments. Humphrey Bogart stars as a cafe owner Rick, with Ingrid Bergman as his lost love Ilsa. Paul Henreid is her husband. Their lives become entwined in the exotic Moroccan City of Casablanca during the early days of WWII. There are several quotes made very famous by this movie. You may know them & not even know where they came from. "I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship" "Here's looking at you kid," & "Play it Again Sam". Speaking of Play it Again Sam, Dooley Wilson (Sam) was a professional drummer who faked playing the piano. Most people don't know that, good trivia question! This movie would be a welcome addition to any classic movies collection. Enjoy!

My 16-year-old son surprised me by asking to watch Casablanca. We watched it together, and I really enjoyed seeing him experience it for the first time. The casting was perfect, the lighting, the storyline, the acting (Humphrey Bogart can speak volumes without saying a word) -- it's perfect. One of the best movies ever made.

DUH...best movie of all time, need I say more. My daughter (17) has a boyfriend who adores this movie, so we found this special edition on EBAY and got it for a sweet price. Nice alternative instead of candy, cards...give something of value....a classic movie!!

"If you could play it for her you can play it for me"
Review created: 08/02/07

The above title should be the real way to remember this classic best movie ever made to be seen. No, the line "Play it again, Sam,"does not exist, but just every other famous lines we all remember does such as "Round up the usual suspects!" The actual move, Casablanca, first released in 1942, has some mistakes as do all movies, but I would have to say for young and old, for the person who lived through it to the acid rocker, this is THE BEST MOVE EVER MADE TO BE SEEN! Is it a love story? Yes! Is it a story of intrigue? Yes! Is it pure entertainment YES! IS IT HUMPHREY BOGART AND INGRID BERGMAN AT THEIR BEST? YES! YES! YES!

The additional disc has the most interesting information yet from interviews with children of the stars, home movies of the stars, what it was like at home with Bogard! Also, a SCENE BY SCENE ANALYSIS BY ROGER EBERT! There is so much more, too!

I WOULD SAY, THIS WAS THE MOST THOUGHTFUL BIRTHDAY GIFT(MY WIFE PRESENTED IT TO ME FOR MY BIRTHDAY) I HAVE EVER RECEIVED. IT BRINGS TEARS TO MY EYES WHEN I WATCH IT (NOT BAD FOR A CRUSTY 56 YEAR OLD GUY)!

If you ever want to purchase a movie set or just a movie that will last a lifetime of watching, this is it! No, there is no"I'll be back special effects" blow em up stuff! Just pure talent: great acting, superb cinematography and absolutely academy award winning directing with Michael Curtiz. He never did anything without a meaning; suit the action to the word, the word to the action.

ALL IN ALL, I'LL BE TRITE, A TRIPLE THUMBS UP!!!!!

One of the all-time classics. Any serious fan of the cinema has to see this one. Many extras on this two disc set. Especially enjoyed the biography of Humphrey Bogart narrated by Lauren Bacall.

Pros:
Everything!

Cons:
That would be a no!

26 November 1942, a day that probably means nothing to no-one (unless of course you happen to have been born on that particular day, but it will mean nothing to most other people) yet it's a day that should go down in history as the birth of a legend. It was on this very day that a film by director Michael Curtiz (Angels with Dirty Faces) was given it's world premiere in New York city. That film was the Humphrey Bogart vehicle Casablanca, a film that has since gone on to infuse itself into our culture in a way few films can truthfully claim. If imitation is indeed the greatest form of...

Was that cannon fire, or is it my heart pounding?
Review created: 06/22/04

Pros:
Only the most important things: story and acting.

Cons:
The hype might keep you away from it as long as it did me.

Casablanca is one of the usual suspects. You know what I mean. The Battleship Potemkin, Metropolis, Citizen Kane, Seven Samurai, North by Northwest, 2001: A Space Odyssey. You know the type, the films that you can expect to see on top of critics lists. The movies that film classes glorify. And not without cause. But while I find each of these films impressive in its own way, Casablanca is one of the only two I really like (I ll let you guess the other one). And Casablanca, more than any of the others, has entered our collective culture. No one would have been more surprised by this legacy...

Casablanca: The Best Movie Ever Made
Review created: 06/27/06
by: Ed.Williamson -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
It has nearly everything most people want in a movie.

Cons:
It hurts a little, but it's a good hurt.

It is fairly easy to pick the worst movie ever made; a lot of people are in agreement that this egregious honor goes to Plan 9 from Outer Space. A task much harder is to pick the best movie ever made. There are many contenders providing a selection from which to choose by the learned critics, including works such as Citizen Kane, The Godfather, The Seven Samurai, Lawrence of Arabia, 8 , and others, and the process of selection is rendered more difficult as time goes on as a historical fan-club mentality swirls around each of these. But out of all of the movies I ve ever seen I have to give...

"Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world...."

Pros:
Everything.

Cons:
Nothing...not even that costuming gaffe.

(To the reader: This review is about the original MGM DVD release and NOT about the 2-disc edition released by Warner Home Video in 2003.) Casablanca! The very name conjures up an exotic mix of adventure, intrigue, heroism, selfless sacrifice, and romance. Hear the title of this 1942 Best Picture winner and your memory will provide you with images of Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman, Paul Henreid, Dooley Wilson, Peter Lorre, and Claude Rains. Or maybe you'll hear snatches of Max Steiner's unforgettable score, with its interpolation of Herman Hupfeld's "As Time Goes By" and the stirring strains.

  You Will Remember This

Pros:
Too many to mention here

Cons:
If you find one, let me know

"Casablanca" is one of the most beloved films in the history of cinema. Every key player in this Oscar-winning picture of 1943 is remembered for their part in this unforgettable film. Some people have seen this film so many times, they know every word by heart. On the surface, it's a story of romance and intrigue. On another level, it's a call for the world to set aside their grievances for the greater good. Most situations we encounter are not as black and white as the ones we faced sixty years ago. We could no longer be isolationists. This film tells us we either had to be with the Axis...
