This lens was intended to be used outdoors, and when it is, you'll get sharp photos with good color and contrast. The autofocus is fast, and works very very well in tracking mode, making it an excellent choice for a budget sports lens.
This lens has a better autofocus motor than the DC motor version, and typically sells on eBay for about $50 more than the lesser version. Either is a wonderful bargain for a person looking for an inexpensive zoom to supplement the 18-55 kit lens. You won't find anything like either version without spending at least three times as much. The micro USM does not allow full-time manual focusing, it must be on or off.
I love it! It's great for stuff you just want a closer look at. I really wanted a lens that you could zoom in on the kids when taking pics of them participating in sports and such. It really brings them in. I'm very pleased with my purchase!
I purchased this lens a month ago and have been using it extensively. It is an amazing product that enables to take beautiful pictures. It is very user friendly and high quality. The price is also very reasonable. Finally, I can sit back enjoy a nice drink and take pictures without having to get up.
It is a nice smaller lens and is great for outdoor work, for indoor it is a little to long should be a 35-300mm. Price was right and I thought I would try it for some outdoor photography.
This lens retails by around $230-$250 in the big stores. I have taken a number of pictures both outdoor and indoor. The only issue for indoor pictures is that flash is needed and if you are taking pictures of people (my children at their school act, for example) everybody have their eyes red, having to edit them.
Pictures come with good colors and definition (I have a digital rebel XT). The size and weight (for a 75-300) is very decent.
Cons: It could have a macro feature and more luminicense, but that will increase the price by $400 or more.
This lens is an excellent addition to my Canon EOS Rebel S II as I venture into the realm of nature photography. All you have to do is sight, zoom and click as it includes autofocus. In addition, if you decide to go digital, this lens will work with Canon's digital series cameras.
