Canon PowerShot SD600 Digital ELPH 6.0 Megapixel

I bought my SD600 about a month ago. Please note that my excellent rating is for this price camera (there are better, more expensive and more complicated and bulky cameras out there, and some really small and slimmer ones). I think this is a great camera because of what it can do for it's size and the price of about 300 dollars. It is probably more camera than most consumers need. It is very much fun, not too small (I can find it easy enough), not too big (keep it in my shirt or pants pocket), and takes high quality 6 megapixal pictures. It seems durable, with the aluminium body, and I like the way the lens retracts and "hides" so you can put it in your pocket.

Previously I had a SD450 that I found and wouldn't you know I knew someone on the pictures that were on the memory card! While waiting for the person I recognized to contact me, I fell in love with how easy the camera was to use, and how easy to have with you. I went to New Orleans and took great pics, and some videos of cajun bands. I was surprised at how good the pictures came out, and the videos came out great with great sound.

So, after returning the found camera, I got the SD600. It has a bigger screen, takes bigger pics at 6 mp, and has a wide screen mode. I kept the battery and charger from the first camera because the one I purchased on ebay was better at 890 mah rating. I also ordered a 2 gig, that's right, 2 gig memory card. I would recommend at least 500 meg or a 1 gig card. But 2 gig holds a lot of large pics and about 30 min of movies. (camera comes standard with a 16 Meg card) Anyway, I love the point and shoot, good auto focusing, good bright display screen, and a lot of manual ability for more important pictures or special conditions. It is easy to plug the USB cord into my computer (Running Windows XP) and the window comes up and let's me choose which pics to load and where, and then they load from the camera 160 large pictures in about 30 seconds. I also like the cord that allows viewing the pictures on a TV. Like at my Mom's house, she has no use for computers.

Dislikes, really I can't think of any important ones. This camera is perfect for having with you, reliable, handy, and great quality pictures. I read a camera review a while back that said 5 megapixels is plenty unless you are going to blow picture up to huge sizes. This 6 megapixel is plenty for me and the pictures print with great detail on 8 X 11 paper. Soooo, for easy good quality pictures with no hassle, I recommend this camera.

Some things to know include, Zoom is 3X optical. Don't count on the digital zoom at all, the pictures get pixel crazy. So I just turn this feature off. It has not been a negative worth mentioning to me, but it may be for you. It is very hard to hold a camera this small still enough to zoom that much anyway, so save yourself the frustration. If you want a better zoom, get a different camera. But don't dispair, my previous camera had an 10X optical zoom, yet I don't miss it!

Also note that this camera features lots of things you can turn on or off, or choose to use, such as sounds, red eye reduction, macro, digital macro, flash, no flash, etc etc etc).

ps, I showed my brother this camera and he flipped out, and ordered one the next day he liked it so much. The other camera I was considering was the new Panasonic that takes the wide angle pictures. It is more expensive and is an 8 Megapixal camera, which I don't need.

This is the third one of its kind we bought - our daughter left her's somewhere on our trip... and because we can interchange chargers and cables and so on even from the previous versions. We also like the quality of the pictures, easy handling, small size, rather large screen. Makes excellent photos. We are generally happy with this camera.

I bought this camera used from one ebay seller. The only problem it was described as having was a "white spot" on the LCD viewer. Sure enough it was there, a kind of "dent". Perhaps this might be somehow related (perhaps not) to the only problem I have found with this otherwise great unit: sometimes it wouldn't power on, complaining that (the fully charged) battery pack needs changing. Well, playing around, and trying to turn it on and off about 10 times usually solves this problem, but it is rather annoying, since sometimes you just want to turn it on and start shooting right away. I thought maybe the problem was with the battery, so I bought a brand new one - same problem.
Oh well. I have also heard that some Canon cameras have issues with opening the lens cover, resulting in an error message on screen. Maybe it is related to that, who knows.

I love this camera the pictures come out so clear, it's easy to use and compact. I won this camera on ebay at a great price. There are many of nice features on the camera. The video even comes out very very good. The canon powershot sd600 came with a cd that you install into the computer was very easy to install. The pictures come out great on the computer.

I own this camera...took it on an extended trip to India and captured incredible shots for a point and shoot that easily fits in one's pocket. A family member liked it and needed a camera, so I got them one.

Mine was stolen. Could not live without it. Bought a newer SD750 but it was not as good. Don't get confused by more Megapixels. That's a number that results in more hard drive space. What really matters is optics and my SD600 rocks in this venue.

I have had this camera for 1 year and love it. In fact I just bought one for a friend looking for a good entree to digital cameras. Battery is excellent. You can take lots of good looking pics and carry this around in a case on your belt. I took it on a horse-pack trip twice with no issues.

I have owned several models of Canon's Digital Elph series, including the SD600. It's a beautifully designed, well-built, easy to use camera that is also very cool because of its tiny size. It takes beautiful photos and video. It's a pleasure to use. I highly recommend the SD600.

I had really done my homework on the small digital camera's and decided that the Canon Powershot SD600 was the very best, "Bang for the buck" that I could afford to buy. The camera is small and easily put into a pocket and it takes outstanding pictures and movies for a camera this small. The problem I have with this camera is that it has not worked properly since the day I bought it.
When I downloaded the pictures it took they were out of focus and blurry. I also get an error code and both the LCD screen and the viewfinder go black and say to turn the camera off, then on again and it will work, but it doesn't! I guess buyer beware on this "deal"!

Takes Excellent Pictures... Canon makes the best digital cameras! There are no flaws in the camera. It is very easy to update the software. The software for the computer is very easty to use!

Well so far my expirience with this seller has been very poor. Tried multiple times to contact him and I get no responses... I send emails and no reponses are sent either.

I was lead to believe all this camera needed was a battery. Nothing was said about huge dents and the fact camera was beat to heck! People like this should be banned from selling on ebay. Buying garbage, make a picture look great, misrepresenting the condition and problems, and selling it....... THIS SELLER IS A SCAMMER!!!!!

I have enjoyed the other PowerShot cameras I have owned and like the quality of pictures I get. The ease of use and small size make it a great camera to take everywhere with you.

This camera is a great improvement over the older versions. I had an SD300 and it was slow and batteries didn't stay charged. THIS camera the battery stays charged forever and the flash is 50 times quicker. I wasn't sure I would like the smallness, but it fits nicely in a pocket or purse. Because it is all metal you don't have to worry about breakage as much. I would recommend this camera to anyone. I love it. I haven't even read the manual yet and have been successful in even taking a video.
