The PowerShot A720 IS is the quintessential A Series camera in a popular line that matches high-end image quality with fun, easy-to-use features that deliver excellent cost performance. Top-notch specifications include 8.0 megapixel resolution and a long 6x optical zoom with Optical Image Stabilizer Technology for sharp images throughout the zoom range. Canon's DIGIC III Image Processor offers advanced Face Detection Technology and Red-eye Correction for fantastic images. Even expand your creative possibilities with wide-angle and telephoto converter lenses.
Top-notch core specifications allow the PowerShot A720 IS to produce a level of image quality that’s fully competitive with that of much higher-end cameras. A full 8.0 megapixels of resolution ensure rich depth and detail, and let you enlarge and crop images freely.
The camera is equipped with a genuine Canon 6x optical zoom to get you up close when it counts. Canon’s sophisticated Optical Image Stabilizer Technology keeps your shots blur-free, even in low light and at the long end of the zoom range. Miniature gyroscopic sensors detect motion, then send a corrective signal, effectively reducing camera shake.
Canon really, really needs to include a SD card with more memory. The SD card that comes with the camera can only hold 5 images when the camera is used with the standard settings. Other than that I had enjoyed and like the camera, when used with a 1GB SD card or larger. The computer software on the enclosed CD was easy to install and use. The instruction manual is well written and easy to understand. I'm still getting used to the slow response time with the shutter button and the time it takes to auto-focus, having had a SLR film camera before. Battery life seems to be somewhat limited. I have taken only about 50 images and I am getting a low battery warning signal. The setup/change menus are difficult to use at first without referring to the user's manual. I have used only a few of the possible shooting and display modes, but what I have learned and like is the ability to erase an image quickly. The ability to power zoom out and in on a subject is also a big plus.
This camera is so easy to use. If you are a new at cameras, set on auto and shoot, if you are a pro then you will love this feature rich camera. The only cons I have is the battery life is short and the memory card that comes with it is patheticly small (data volume is 16 Mb, about 6 pictures of space). Both are overcome rather easily, buy a bigger memory card and buy lithium batteries or rechargables. The camera takes beautiful pictures and can capture minute details, it is amazing.
I love the ease of using this camera and the quality of the photos it takes. It is small enough to go anywhere with ease, shows you your picture immediately and transfers to your computer with ease. I would recommend it to anyone.
this camera is the best camera i bought to date, takes excellent photo's,my parents always bought canon so i decided i would since the last couple brand names were not up to expectations, and turns out canon is a great product, easy to work with, would buy canon again, defininetly recommended camera,A720 IS,8.0 megapixal
For the past forty or so years I have used 35mm SLR cameras, generally high or top end models from Olympus, Canon and Pentax. All fine cameras. About 7 years ago I bought a slightly used Canon Powershot A20 strictly for quick photos to email. I still have it and still performing flawlessly. Several years ago I switched over to Pentax SLR digital mainly so I could use my arsenal of Pentax lenses acquired over the years. There are times when I don't want or need to take one of the SLR's due to the bulkiness. After reading many of the reviews, and there are plenty online I chose the Canon720is. It has enough options such as spot metering and other features to allow creativity at a relatively inexpensive price. I have used most of the cameras features except the face recognition focusing and am delighted with the results. It does have a proper viewfinder however only shows around 85% of the actual subject. To me a camera without a viewfinder is strictly for point and shoot snapshots for novices. Those screens are difficult at best to see in direct sunlight and holding a camera at arms length causes camera shake. The 720is has a nice built in grip for one hand shooting and all the controls are in the right place for me. Yes there are better point and shoot cameras available for a lot more money and some shoddy ones for less. This camera does all that I expect and more for the price paid. For entry level photographers who want to expand their abilities and those who need a decent inexpensive compact back up, the 720is is worth concidering.
This is a great easy to use camera. It has a little more to hang on to that the smaller powershot camera. This makes it good for those with stiff hands and fingers.
Traded up from Canon PowerShot A540 because of the steady-shot feature but found the A720 more cheaply made. Battery compartment hung up and was cheap plastic and zoom activator was cheezy and didn't zoom freely and smoothly. The A540 was a more substantial camera but the A720 DOES have a better quality picture due to more resolution. Kind of sorry I gave away my A540 to a relative before receiving A720. Good Luck!
See above comment. The camera takes excellent pictures, it is easy to learn, an elementary school student can use it, and the quality of the pictures are excellent. Would advise anyone looking for a good camera at a reasonable price to purchase one.
NEVER BUY FROM AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
After researching other point-&-shoot cameras, I chose this one because it has STABILIZATION & Movies with sound. I was a bit worried about the negatives this seller had, but those fears were unfounded. Shipping was FA$T & packaging excellent. Came with all software & manuals in NEW condition and sealed in a plastic wrap. Even came with BATTERIES!!! Will do business with seller again if the need arises. Seller even offers after-sale gaurantee, if desired for, $20. That's just in case it breaks after a few days, weeks or months... I purchased an SVP camera which didn't work out of the box---am still waiting for its return after 8 wks.
excellent features, incredible photos, came complete with everything I needed. I couldn't be happier with this camera. I intend to use it for taking underwater pictures while diving. Underwater housing is my next purchase, but with this camera I wont be breaking the bank buying the housing.
I gave this camera to my wife for Christmas & she is thrilled. We took about 600 pictures with it (used a 2GB memory card) on our trip to Disney World & almost all came out great. With the zoom, she got some sharp pix of her sister playing one of the extras in the Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular, and the shots of the kids with the many Disney characters came out just as good as those taken by the professional phographers from the parks. The one complaint is that is eats batteries like potato chips. We need to get some rechargeable ones.
I own approximately two hundred and fifty cameras more or less. I do preferr 35 mm film cameras to a digital. I have a large collection of film cameras but from the beginning this little Canon 720 hooked me. Other diget's are hard to hold but this little fellow fit perfectally in my hand. It takes perfect shots with each firing of the shutter. The other day I had to film some empty buildings with no electricity in them for light. This little fellow made it look like all the lights were on especially on the subject. I would presume that you get as much out of the cameras battery's as you would any other camera. You get more use out of the camera and conserve power by using the view finder and not the viewing screen. I never had any dislike about it.
I am very saddened as my wife picked it up one time and chose it over her nikon. So now I am left to purchase another one. Thank you Canon
I like the side mount for the tripod stand I can take my SD card out and replace the batterys. I'm getting great pictures, period, even in low light. Just learn how to use the program mode for night shots and you will too!
I use irfanview and recomend it to anyone. http://www.irfanview.net/
I also bought my camera from www.buydig.com they had the best price.
The seller's company claimed that they had not received my PalPal funds, yet I had verification from PayPal and from my bank. Shipping was delayed a week.
I bought the camera for my daughter for xmas and had reviewed and looked at several brands and styles. I chose this one because it came from a brand I trusted and had a fairly good warranty. (1 year) The pictures are so crisp and clear it is like being there and the ease of use is perfect after she got it within just minutes she had begun to take pictures. Over all it is very simple and I would say it is middle of the road for the point and click cameras it has a big viewing screen it has simple to use buttons to focus or change lighting. It hooks to my printer quickly and downloads from camera to printer in seconds. The down fall is that it uses batteries very quickly and I would recommend rechargeable batteries for it. I have since bought a battery charger kit that hooks to her car so that she can charge batteries anywhere as she is a huge outdoor picture taker. The outdoor pictures that it takes are second to none in quality and crispness even after dark. I am really happy with this camera and would buy another without a second thought.
This is more about the seller rather than the product.
The seller agreed to shipping terms before I bid, and then after I won the bid he decided that he would not honor the terms and I was stuck with a product that I could not use due to untimely circumstances.
So, I decided not to pay for the product. Otherwise it would be a waste of my money. I have always had good luck with sellers, but this seller was not in a mood to work with me.
So, watch out for those kinds of sellers in advance.....
I love the camera and think for the money it is the best deal out there. It is not as small as some others but does so much more, can even get micro and wide angle lens for it. I am very happy with my choice
So far I like it very much, however, I think the batteries are weak as I have to wait for awhile after taking a photo to be able to take another. I am also going to have to read up on the instruction booklet to learn more about the camera. Thanks.
