Caddie Woodlawn is a great family film about a pioneer family that gains a friendly relationship with the Native Americans that live nearby. The family lives in Wisconsin, but have migrated from Boston. It shows a good comparison between the pioneers and the city peoples lifestyles in the mid 1800's. I use this movie to follow up the book. The drawback of the movie is it does not follow the book. It is a great compare/contrast activity if you use it this way. There is no vulgar language or violence. The main character is based off of the authors grandmother.
