The whole of the CD is very musical with a dynamic range not heard in todays compression heavy mastering. The songs themselves are icing on the cake.

  Great album, greatly improved

I first bought this album on vinyl when it was first released, later on I bought a cassette and a CD, too. Then I lost the CD and forgot about it for years. The remaster is just better, sharper than any of the previous releases, and well worth the money.

Brothers in Arms - Excellent album
Review created: 01/05/07

Brothers in Arms is one of those albums that stands apart from the rest. Its music is unique, hauntingly powerful in places and the very catching in others. I am a fan of music that goes beyond basic riffs and repetitive guitar and drum rhythms. I love music that is clever, rhythmically brilliant and intellectually stimulating. Brothers in Arms shines in all areas.

Brothers in Arms: Making Money for Nothing, Hookers' Tricks and "My MTV"
Review created: 05/08/07
by: bettega -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Complexity approaching classical music, harmonies, lyrics/stories, tasteful use of electronics

Cons:
Filler track or two, such beauty is a lot to stand and may require Kleenex.

For most bands, success means selling a lot of records, making tons of money and having millions of screaming girls ogling all over you. This is good, if not great. Why shouln't a struggling artist who sacrificed almost everything to craft their work be rewarded? Yet, as with the Yin-Yang symbol we all have come to love, gratification can be a two edge sword. The roots of success can be found in the depths of obscurity yet the makings of failure lie at the core of success. In the music world this means that once the rock band has enough money to buy drugs more expensive than third rate weed,..

Commercial album that doesn't show the true Dire Straits.
Review created: 08/16/00

Pros:
Some good music, a groundbreaking viseo.

Cons:
Too commercial, Dire Straits get lost in this album.

Dire Straits are one of Great Britains lessor known classic bands. Mark Knoffler on guitar and lyrics leads this band with their definitive style of rock and pop music. His unique guitar style is instantly recognizable to all fans. The band made several albums before Brothers in Arms producing some classic rock music that deserves more merit than they got. Classic albums like Love Over Gold and Alchemy introduced Dire Straits to a small but tight fan base. With Brothers in Arms, Dire Straits became a little more commercial and propelled themselves into Superstardom (in England). The album...

The Greatest Album of the 1980s

Pros:
Amazing instrument skill. Brilliant and meaningful songs. A true classic

Cons:
None

When Dire Straits first hit the scene in the late 70's, the reaction from their native England was lukewarm, so it caused a little surprise when the debut album was raved about, first in parts of continental Europe, then in Australia and finally in the USA. By this, Dire Straits' fifth album, England had long since caught up with the rest of the world and Brothers in Arms went on to perform the amazing feat of being the highest selling album in England in BOTH 1984 and 1985. I am ashamed to admit that it took me until the release of this album to discover Dire Straits, although I can be...

Pros:
Ride through everything from rock to reggae

Cons:
Not enough tracks

This is the first compact disc that i bought, way back in 1987 ( 8.99 from Woolworths), Just after starting my first job and buying my first stereo system (at last, mine, all mine) I originally bought the album because i loved 'Money for Nothing' and 'Brothers in Arms' (it went with the 'Why!' anti war posters on my bedroom walls, remember those) but i was not prepared for how powerful the whole album would be. Here is a quick rundown of the tracks 1 - So Far Away - A story of love at a distance, begging to be together 2 - Money For Nothing - Upbeat rose tinted vision of pop stars lives, from.
