Brain Age for the Nintendo DS is somewhat of an anomaly. By all technical terms, it's a game; you learn the rules, play your guts out, and go for a high score. Then again, it's nothing like a game; simple math equations, classical reading, or just counting as fast as you can are the order of the day. You hurriedly scribble the answers (which the game will occasionally completely misinterpret), shout the names of colors (which the game will occasionally completely misinterpret), and try desperately to write out that list of words you were just supposed to memorize (will the game will occasionally completely misinterpret). All of this to receive a score like you've never seen: a score for your brain.
If you want a game that you will play for a few hours at a time, look elsewhere. Nintendo seems determined to have you play this game for a few minutes every day (much like Nintendogs or Animal Crossing). The added Sudoku puzzles add some longevity, but it won't keep you glued to your DS. It's odd and occasionally unwieldy, but I keep coming back. Never before has a game made me feel so dumb, and never before have I felt a game may just make me smarter.
I am not very sure about its ability to improve your brain's smartness but I do think it is a cool thing you can do with your family kids. This has some fun activities in the game like simple math, memory (remembering a few words shown), headcount (counting the people who will be in the house after a few people move in and out.) Since the game also keeps track of time and the problems are simple, it evens the field between adults and kids. My kid and I enjoyed this game very much.
This game also depends on speech recognition and handwriting recognition technology both of which are not perfect and in fact may contribute to lower scores( actually higher age in this case). Otherwise so far we enjoyed this game very much.
Overall, I would rather like my son to spend time on this game than any other nintendo games he has.
This is an awesome game! I bought this game for myself even though I am 25 years old. I really enjoy playing it. The instructions to each excersise are very easy to understand. The goal in this game is to acheive a "brain age" of 20, because you want to be as sharp as a 20 year old. I started out with a "brain age" of 73. By the second day, I had come all the way down to a "brain age" of 32! I took the game to work ( I work in a hospital in the operating room suite as an Anesthesia Tech) to see if my coworkers would enjoy it as much as I, and of course they loved it! Their "brain ages" ranged from 80 to 60. I recommend this game to anyone who loves to learn. This is also a great game for anyone who's job is very routine, it gives you time to think outside of the box! Buy it today, its worth every penny!
This is a great game. It makes your brain work. My wife loves it also and is considering buying one for her kids at school to play during their free time.
I got this as gift for my 50 yr old dad. He plays it everyday. He love its so much he even got my mom and 17 yr old sister to play and they are both hooked. It is an awesome game for those that like to test their minds. Super fun.
The game is just fine, the only problem that I see is the shipping. Well I paid for a priority mail so I can get a trankig number for my on control and safety and of course get the game faster. This didn't heppened, the game was send as regular mail the cost was only $1.68 and took 2 weeks for the game get here.I'm fine becouse I get the game but don't do this any more becouse some people take the ebay seriously.
Actually, I bought this game as I heard it was a great tool for a cranial workout! My Mom died from the effects of Alzheimer's and all I've read, is that by keeping your brain working at peak efficiency will help to maintain your sanity as you age. I am looking forward to a Nintendo DS Lite that works properly so I can use all the tools and also to buying Brain Age 2.
I bought it for a friends b-day present and they seem to like it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love these items. I read an article in the New York Times that said Brain Age and Brain Age II are excellent ways to keep your brain excercised and sharp. I have found that is a true statement.
The seller was very professional and shipped the items in a timely manner. I will shop with them again.
Its a great game. I play it almost every day and I notice a marked improvement in my math skills. A few more games would have been nice, but I would still recommend it to anyone.
This is a very enjoyable game. I purchased it for my 10 and 12 year old children to "play" and learn. I have only played with it twice. Some of the "games" are quite challenging and you have to concentrate. My only complaint is it has a hard time telling the difference between our numbers 4 and 9. This could just mean we need to practice our penmanship! How I see it, my kids are exercising their brains while they are having fun. That is always a plus in my book!
This is a fun way to exercise your brain. Not nearly as easy as I thought it would be. I decided to buy it from the commercial seen on television and I was not disappointed. The "interaction" is entertaining.
I thought it would be fun for my kids to do something for their academics instead of just piling up points on some nonsense game. So my kids bought the ds and I bought the game. We all have a profile and play to see how we stack up against each other. My 10 year old, 14 year old and I all play. It's rated for age so it's an even playing field sort of thing. We are having fun every day. And my ten year old was impressed with the diagrams about how your brain gets used during different activities and was shocked to see how little your brain gets used while watching tv or playing video games. He even mentioned just reading out loud more to use more of his brain.
the games are fun but would like it better if there were more on it.The games are challenging and do have different levels but would like a little more to choose from. Also the game wouldn't register the word "blue" in the speaking portion of it, but it would all of the other colors.
Great for stimulating your brain and improving cognitive skills. It is tough to write with the stylus to the exact specifications of the game, so sometimes it reads your answers incorrectly, which is frustrating. But overall it is a very fun game for adults. I wouldn't give it to someone under the age of 10 because they would get disappointed in their scoring. My spouse and I keep challenging each other and competing, which has been entertaining. I would highly recommend the game!
I am so attached to this game and I have only had for one day the seller was great to. I love ebay and that is where I normaly shop when I want something I live in the mountains and I dont go down the hill much so this works out great for me
it tests your brain age with math, reading aloud ,sight memory and more i enjoy the games and the graphs.the game can misread your answers and you are graded on speed and accuracy ang i don't like it
They have a lot of creative developers backing up Nintendo. This game is very simple but yet entertaining. No need for excess graphics, blood and gore.
In my opinion...much better than Brain Age 2. It's challenging, but your also learning things. I can tell that my math skills are starting to improve since i've started playing Brain Age. Another HUGE PLUS in my mind is that you can use JUST the stylus, for a handicap person like myself this very important.
