Two strait men dress in drag to take advantage of an inexpensive apartment in a womens only building.
It's a simple premise that spills over in to situations that go far beyond the simple summary 'hilarity ensues'.
This is true sitation comedy with brilliant writers and characters you'd like to know personally.
While some references are clearly dated, most of this series has the timeless quality of The Honeymooners with as many laughs per episode as Soap.
I'm fortunate enough to recall how much I loved it as a kid but old enough that I cant recall most of the plot lines and jokes, so I get to experience it all over again.
If you're looking for a laugh and a half, just know that Bosom Buddies is waiting. I, for one, am going to collect the whole series.
I CANT BELIEVE I'M WATCHING A SHOW FROM WHEN I WAS A KID ON DVD AND TO SEE IT MAKES ME LAUGH SO HARD. THANKFULL I RECIEVED IT IN GREAT SHAPE. WISH THE SHOW LASTED MORE YEARS.
What a shame how overlooked this brilliantly executed show is. The hilarious writing is punctuated with the perfect chemistry of all it's uncommonly likable characters. I don't know anyone who doesn't like it... If only more had seen it, it would've lasted longer. Based on this show, I was always surprised that Tom Hanks went on to be the big star. Never liked his arrogance. I would've pegged Peter Scolari for stardom. He's the one with character and depth.
This DVD let me share my fond memories of a classic sitcom with my daughter, passing on the laughter to a new generation. My 14-year-old knows Tom Hanks from the (old) video of "Splash," which was her introduction to this talented actor. Now, she gets to see how her mom was introduced to him. Amazingly, "Bosom Buddies" holds up (or maybe not so amazingly, given the enduring appeal of cross-dresssing humor, from "Some Like it Hot" to "La Cage.." to "Tootsie," and so on). Knowing that Tom Hanks was one of my daughter's favorites led me to order this DVD, and also gave me the excuse I needed to re-visit one of my favorite shows from my high school days. Now, if only I could get the complete first season of "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis..."
I used to watch this show on TV when I was 8 yrs old. Although I didn't get most of it then, we taped the show. That tape was getting run pretty ragged, so I'm glad Buffy and Hildegarde are on DVD!!
I bought the dvd set for my sister for a birthday gift. She has always loved the show. The dvd's arrived very promptly was new and still sealed.Happy with quality of the picture on television. It was everything the seller said it would be. My sister and myself are very satisffied. Thanks,Beverly
