BEING A BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN FANATIC FOR 26 YEARS NOW THIS RELEASE IS LIKE PURE HEAVEN. HIS MUSIC AND WORDS ARE PURE GENIUS. NO OTHER ARTIST CAN WRITE SONGS AND EXPRESS THEMSELVES LIKE BRUCE CAN. HE WILL ALWAYS BE MY BOSS!!!!
I won't bore you with the history and musical importance of this album. I will talk about the audio quality and the overall package. I have had several versions of this album over the years. Starting with vinyl. They have all sounded muddy, compressed and had no dynamic range. This remaster finally got it right. There are moments that still sound a little thin (but it must be on the master tape, that is what they used here) but all in all the instruments feel liberated from thier 30 year stranglehold. Bass is tight and deep where it should be and I hear things I have never heard before. Isn't that the reason for buying this album AGAIN. The packaging is great with lots photos and essays. The DVD's are a bonus with a docemntary about making the original recording and an incredible concert from the same time period. If you like early Bruce you'll be in heaven. Recommended.
Takes me back to the good old days, when the music mattered. Plenty of bonus features. Lot's of great old photo's of him and the band. Worth every penny. Enjoy.......
The major plus is the complete Hammersmith Odeon DVD (well-mastered 16mm film and exceptional multi-track sound quality). The re-mastered album is no improvement over the Legacy Gold remastering a few yars back. In fact, that edition may actually be more satisfying. The second DVD is an interesting look at the lengthy recording process and experimentation which produced this timeless classic and catapulted Springsteen to stardom. The original album art is scaled down for CD, making the lyrics all but impossible to read. Also, it would have been helpful if the DVD had subtitles (as the PBS airing had Closed Captions). Apart from the above quibbles, well-worth owning.
Vintage Springsteen at his finest. The documentary and the live show DVDs are superb. Of course, the music is at the center. I must have worn out a dozen _Born to Run_ albums over the years. (Well, vinyl albums, cassettes, and now a CD. Thanfully Bruce came a bit late in the 8 track era.) After 30 years, this is still the best album in the history of rock and roll.
