The Times They Are A-Changin' but Bob Dylan's Classics Still Resonate (BOBS W/O)

Pros:
Outstanding lyrics, melody, writing, performance, etc...
Cons:
Kind of short...
My day will begin with a musical confession. I, as a fan of all things rock and roll, have very little knowledge of Bob Dylan. Even worse, outside of his biggest songs I really have very scant ideas about who he is and what his music sounds like. Don t get me wrong I know he is a talented songwriter but I ve never been particularly drawn to his sound. That is my only real excuse for all but ignoring Dylan for all these years. I m not going to pretend to be an expert and I m not going to feint real knowledge, but I will say that from a songwriting perspective there is no doubt that Dylan is a..

"Greatest Hits": Chapter 1 in the career of The Master (BOBS W/O)
Review created: 10/12/05
by: mcheadcase-- a member of Epinions and Advisor in Music
Pros:
Everything: the music is exceptional, lyrical content is outstanding; includes some of Dylan's best work.
Cons:
It only covers the beginning of Dylan's illustrious career; other songs could've been included.
In the music world, when Greatest Hits compilations come out, it usually means one of two things: 1. the artist has retired or has died, and the Greatest Hits are used to either keep his/her career alive or to cash in on his/her reputation; 2. it is generally believed that the artist is at the end of his/her career and is putting out a Greatest Hits compilation to salvage what is left of their legacy (this is what Eminem is planning to do with his upcoming compilation entitled "Curtain Call"); The latter is what happened to Bob Dylan in 1967. I don't think there's any denying that Bob Dylan...

The First Alternative Musician
Review created: 08/24/00
by: j3nny3lf -- a member of Epinions
Pros:
The best stuff Dylan ever recorded
Cons:
None
When Bob Dylan appeared on the music scene, he trashed the standards of popular music, opening them up to new thoughts, ideas, and sounds, with no regard for industry opinion. In an era when music was only popular if performed by perfectly packaged vocal groups that could harmonize, Bob Dylan with his frizzy hair, overbite, and big nose was an anomaly. With his weak and nasal voice, he was a horror to many. But when he opened his mouth and started singing, people at first had to listen simply because they couldn't believe this guy had the nerve to sing in public, and then kept listening...

Bob - Can He Fix it?
Review created: 06/07/01
by: taylor-mayed -- a member of Epinions
Pros:
Some fine folk rock balladry.
Cons:
It does get irritating when so much sounds the same.
Bob Dylan is possibly unique amongst musicians in that he has become famous all over the world and earned the respect and admiration of his peers without ever really aspiring to achieve mainstream commercial success. He writes and performs songs about whatever subject he chooses and writes them in any way he sees fit, without thinking about what the record companies or the public or anybody else will think. It is unlikely that such an individual will ever come to prominence again, and so Dylan is without doubt and artist who should be treasured. However, his style does not appeal to everyone,.

10 tracks, 10 great songs
Review created: 02/25/00

Pros:
10 great songs by one of the best musical artists of this century
Cons:
No liner notes
Bob Dylan is one of those artists who speaks his mind, both through his music and his beautiful lyrics. His brilliant career has spanned decades, and in that time he has touched the world. This album, albeit a small one, is a perfect indication of that. This album features ten tracks, and begins with the song "Rainy Day Women #12
