Pros:
Nicole Kidman. Unique plot
Cons:
Slow moving at times
I have seen many movies that Nicole Kidman has been in. There are some that I haven t seen, but I do like her. I have thought that she was talented for a long time now. I m glad to see that she is finally getting recognition. The last few years haven t been the best for her in her personal life, but she has done very well professionally, appearing in several successful movies. Birthday Girl was a smaller movie that she was in that didn t do as well at the box office. I decided to see it mainly because of Nicole Kidman being in it. The movie was a bit different, but I enjoyed it. PLOT John was.

Kidman in Birthday Girl: how low can you go...

Pros:
Well, they got the Russian bits right...
Cons:
Sleezy and unlikeable, I was so happy to see this film end.
I can usually sit through a film if there's the merest thread of a plot to hang onto. Unfortunately, not even Nicole Kidman can save this tawdry hash of a film involving a Russian e-mail-order bride, a banker and two thugs. That's pretty much the character list in this one, and besides talking head shots, we get some kink and bashing about. This, mi tovarischi, does not a film make. Lonely, isolated John Buckingham (Ben Chaplin) spends his days at work or running. We open the film with his fumbling attempts to make an intro for a matchmaking service in Russia. Somehow, he connects with Nadia .

Happy Birthday to a Real Loser

Pros:
I did not have to stay home tonight to see re-runs of Jeopardy
Cons:
Plot-Character, Direction-Cheap vodka with a twist
I just saw a highly rated dud. The film is The Birthday girl starring Nicole Kidman and Ben Chaplin. This is a birthday party I hope they don t invite me to in the near future because sweetheart I am not going! Characterization The role of Nicole Kidman is a complex one. She is playing a mail order bride from Russia. Her dialogue in English in this flick is composed of about two paragraphs. I wonder why a Russian actress couldn t have served the audience better. Was this just money making draw to get wealthy American viewers in the seats of the local cinema? Da ! She plays a woman called...

Granniemose IS Nicole Kidman (Granniemose Birthday Bash Write-Off)
Review created: 10/23/02
by: Simply_Crispy -- a member of Epinions
Pros:
Kidman is sultry and fantastic as ever.
Cons:
Awkward change in story.
This here review is part of Artbyjude s celebratory Granniemose Birthday Bash Write-off! , a write/off that pretty much explains itself. In order to celebrate the 80th birthday of Epinions writer Granniemose, anyone and everyone was invited by her daughter to write a review of anything whatsoever in tribute to this wonderful woman. To be honest, a write/off in her honour is the least we could do for her. Myself, I ve rather predictably chosen to review a film. And even more predictably it s the film Birthday Girl. So a quick toast to Granniemose, and onwards we go. Now, and I m sure I m not...

More Than He Bargained For

Pros:
Unpredictable, Good Acting
Cons:
Slow, Ending
This is one of those movies I didn't hear much about, but kind of wanted to see anyway. I knew it would be different and Nicole Kidman is a good actress. Well, it was definitely different and unpredictable, but I found it a little boring in the beginning and was unsure about the ending. The Story John is an over working bank employee who doesn't have time to date, but is lonely. In a narrative, he explains his reasons for wanting a wife and we see glimpses of his lifestyle. He decides to invest in a mail order bride from Russia through a Russian web site titled "From Russia With Love". He...
