  Big Special Extended Edition DVD
Review created: 03/02/08

I Love this DVD because it is a two disc special edition that contains the original theatrical release of the movie, as well as the extended edition which has over 20 minutes of deleted scenes! Great Special Features and good audio commentary make this Special Edition release of Big a winner! Highly Satisfied Customer! A must have for fans of Big!

  This Was Good !

My wife had seen the movie before, a few times during the years.

However I had not, and had the opportunity to view this extended cut.

This movie was right up my alley with the fantasy. I enjoyed Tom Hanks and Elizabeth Perkins in the lead roles.

This was more than just the 'chick flick' I thought it was, and should have watched it before now!

Recommended for couples for vieiwing, or just the big kid in you!

How to re-gain an appreciation of childhood

I love the way Tom Hanks realistically portrays a child in an adult's body! He is amazingly funny and sensitively touching. The characterization helps us grasp what is imporant in our homes, our childrens' lives, and our own.

Tom Hanks has a big secret...

Pros:
Tom Hanks turns in a flawless performance as a 12-year-old gone "big".

Cons:
Don't watch it at a low point in your life; it'll never be the same.

Joshua Baskin couldn't be more frustrated. Take out the garbage, take out the garbage, he mocks his parents as he carries the burly bags out to the cans at the end of the driveway. Like any typical 12 year old, Josh is also getting to that age where he likes girls, but there's little luck waiting for him in that department, either. He's got a crush on a girl named Cynthia, but she's just way too popular (and a bit old too, I would say!) It's not the typical nerd's life, though. Josh has a friend he can always depend on in Billy Kopecki. One night, he is at a carnival with his parents and who..

"Big" and bigger thanks to the Extended Edition DVD.

Pros:
A contemporary comedy classic makes it at last to special edition DVD.

Cons:
The 130-minute extended cut is a little too much of a good thing.

In 1984, the idea came to screenwriter Gary Ross to make a body-switching comedy, and he settled on the conceit of a boy who becomes a full-grown man overnight. His neighbor happened to be Anne Spielberg, Steve's sister, and the two writers managed to immediately brainstorm ideas and come up with a fresh script. After securing a deal with producer James L. Brooks, a second draft of the film was developed in a year. But by the time sitcom star-turned-director Penny Marshall and actor Tom Hanks (who perhaps would've avoided the project like he did before were Robert De Niro not temporarily...

A Contemporary Fairy Tale For Adults and Families

Pros:
Sweet film, well done story

Cons:
None

There's one thing I find absolutely terrifying about Hollywood, is that they remake movies. Bad movies to be remade, are understandable because the filmmakers can improve on a concept not executed thoughtfully. But a good movie to be remade can be questionable. Of course not all remakes are bad and some don't need remaking at all. A film should simply stand on it's own two feet without any touches. Big is one of those films that hopefully, won't get remade but given how the film industry remakes everything including the upcoming Bad News Bears (which in my opinion, looks surprisingly...

  Time to get a laugh

Pros:
very funny

Cons:
none

I have this movie on video, and I have seen it many times. The first time I watched this I was at a friends house, and laughed through almost the whole movie. When I need to laugh I pull out this movie, and just shut out the world, and reality, and laugh. Without revealing to much for those who may not have seen this, I think the idea of how children may perceive our adult world is comical. Tom Hanks is the perfect actor for this movie. I think it is very funny when we see how a 13 year old would view a business Christmas party. The idea that what we may consider a delicacy, a child would...

  Big Fun

Pros:
Tom Hanks is in it

Cons:
??

I think this is a really good movie. I've seen it so many times and still like it. This movie is about a 13-year-old boy named Josh who makes a wish on a wishing booth game at a carnival. He later that night goes to sleep and wakes up the following morning finding his wish came true. He was "big". Josh had a body of a 35-year-old man's, but with a mind and spirit of a 13-year-old's. Scared and confused, he runs out of the house and goes to find his best friend Billy at school. Of course, Josh's mom screams and yells when confronted by her grown up son Josh, now being played by Tom Hanks. Josh.
