Bewitched ~ Ignore the Naysayers! *Cackle*
Review created: 06/29/05

Pros:
Kidman, Cain, MacLaine.. and yes, even Ferrell

Cons:
Opening song

I grew up with Samantha Stevens and like all of my friends I dreamt of waking up with those magical powers. She was fun, she was ornery, and she just wanted to be normal and live a normal life... but things kept happening to tempt her into using her witchcraft in the funniest and orneriest way imaginable. This, then is the movie version of the old TV series... sort of. Bewitched is actually a movie about the remaking of the TV series, only with Darren as the main character this time to assuage the ego of one Jack Wyatt (Will Ferrell). He stumbles upon a nobody to play Samantha so he can have..

Bewitched - She's a witch, she's a witch, oh, the witch is back....

Pros:
Clever story, strong screenplay, good performance

Cons:
predictable love story, the producers failed to cast me as Samantha

I wanted it. I wanted it all. The twitching nose, the fab hairdo and the most coveted treasure of all the magic. I wanted that magic. That s right, I wanted to be Samantha Stephens. I figured I would dump Darrin, hex the boss and the nosy neighbor and fly off to live the life of the uber-witch with Paul Lynde along to make me laugh. Alas, it simply wasn t meant to be a mere mortal in the suburbs was to be my fate. But a big screen Bewitched*? Oh, yes. That had me itching for twitching all over again. For anyone not familiar with it, the original Bewitched television series (1964-1972) starred.

A Twitch of the Nose and Presto! Another Remake

Pros:
Kidman, Farrell; The interesting screenplay

Cons:
The movie's ending; Shirley MacLaine's lack of any real part in the film

2005 seems to be the year of the movie remake. Several of the movies I have seen this year are either remakes of old movies or remakes of television shows, made into movies. This film, Bewitched, fits into the latter category. It is a movie based on the classic television series from the 1960 s that combines some laughs with some serious romance. Movie Facts: Rating: PG-13 Format: Color Director: Nora Ephron Screenplay/Writing Credits: Nora Ephron, Delia Ephron, Sol Saks Theatrical Release Date: June 24, 2005 Movie Length: 102 Minutes Starring: Nicole Kidman, Will Farrell, Michael Caine,...

Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrell are Delightful in Bewitched

Pros:
Nicole Kidman, Will Ferrell, Michael Caine, and Shirley MacLaine. Unique twist for the story.

Cons:
Caine and MacLaine underused. Predictable moments.

When I was a child, I remember seeing reruns of the television show Bewitched. I liked the show. I still see the reruns every so often and enjoy them. I can t remember exactly when I first heard about a movie version being made, but I wanted to see it as soon as I knew about it. Finding out that Nicole Kidman was going to be in the movie just made me want to see it more. The movie version of Bewitched ended up being different from what I expected at first, but I did like it. Jack Wyatt s career was in trouble. His last movie was a huge flop and he was in search of a new project. He was...

  First, Bewitched, then Webitched

Pros:
Funny clips from the old TV show, nice acting

Cons:
Lacking a true focus, direction or desire

I don't think I've ever seen an episode of Bewitched in its entirety before. If that makes anything I have to say a moot point, so be it. But I'm in the wrong age bracket, that's for sure. Being born in 1976 basically means you haven't the capacity to splorch yourself over anything black and white, but you're pretty well too old for today's wretched humor. So you're caught in the middle. That's kind of what I'm left feeling about Bewitched, the movie. There were some things I absolutely loved about it, and others that left me smothered by apathy and ambivalence. As is made fairly obvious by...
