Lady Venetia Campbell was born in Scotland but has very little memory of the place, since she lives in London now. She is the only daughter of the Earl of Duncannon, who would like to see her married but she has turned down many proposals. She wants someone to marry her for love, not for the money her family can provide. A wonderful opportunity for her to go to Edinburgh, Scotland and join in the festivities for King George IV arises and so she happily anticipates her trip. While in Edinburgh, she attends a ball and dances with a handsome Highlander who charms her thoroughly. But before he can charm her anymore, he kidnaps her! It isn't long before she finds out he is really a childhood friend, Lachlan Ross. Apparently, Ross has a quarrel with her father, the Earl, and is demanding a fortune in money for Venetias return. What Ross doesn't count on is that Venetia is more than a match for him with her high spirit and beauty. There is plenty of passion between them, but also complications and family secrets, not to mention revenge.
Ms. Jeffries writes in detail. She does a lot of research on her books to make sure everything is factual in the history department surrounding the fiction. I loved this book best in the series.....maybe because it takes place outside of London. For exact history and steamy passion and a story to take your breath away....this is the author to read!
