These southern rockers turn out catchy southern rock with the best of them. And the tunes are some of the catchiest to boot. If you like your rock southern fried (and occasionally a bit lighter than the Allman Bros. or Skynyrd), then buy this disc and follow it up with some of their studio albums--Red Tape, A Rock 'n" Roll Alternative, Third Annual Pipe Dream, and Quinella--if you can find them.

Pros: Has most of their classic tracks
Cons: Does not have their 1981 hit "Alien"
I first heard of the Atlanta Rhythm Section 30 years ago this coming November, when they first broke into the top 40 with a song called "Doraville." This song featured instrumental hooks that were at times lonesome and upbeat. The lyrics are a bit self-effacing toward the band's hometown (Doraville, GA), yet they wouldn't want to live anywhere else. The song peaked at #35 on the chart. Their next single, "Angel (What In The World's Come Over Us)," was one of my personal favorites by the band.
