Best of George Harrison - Harrison, George (Cassette 1990)

"I've loved you from the moment I saw you"

Pros:
Great material overall

Cons:
Superior songs ignored, short runtime, Beatles songs on a Best of George Harrison collection

In 1976, George Harrison's contract with Capitol Records was ending, so a Best of George Harrison compilation was rushed out. Because this album was made early in George's solo career, it includes only thirteen songs, seven of which are Beatles songs which George wrote. It also includes some weaker tracks that really shouldn't be on a greatest hits collection, while ignoring some of George's early solo gems. Something is one of the Beatles' most romantic songs, featuring sincere, beautiful lyrics and a Harrison guitar solo that is perfection itself. George's voice and songwriting skills had...

Pros:
Any way you look at it, thirteen good songs.

Cons:
Too much emphasis on the Beatle years at the expense of his solo work.

To put it charitably, this greatest hits collection was an insult to George Harrison. With the breakup of the Beatles, there was a large school of thought that Harrison could not hope to match the expected solo successes of his former bandmates, Paul McCartney and John Lennon. Although George had written several important songs for the group, and penned a bona fide classic in Something, he was not a prolific songwriter, nor was his voice particularly well-suited for taking the lead much of the time. His strength, it seemed, was as a guitarist, and not much more than that. So it must have been.

ONCE A BEATLE ALWAYS A BEATLE!

Pros:
A GREATEST HITS CD THAT HAS GREAT SONGS

Cons:
ONLY 1 WEAK SONG

GEORGE HARRISON was a member of the GREATEST MUSIC GROUP OF ALL TIME, THE BEATLES . He was once considered the quiet Beatle early in his career with the group. George is the youngest of the FAB FOUR which also consisted of PAUL MCCARTNEY , RINGO STARR and the murdered JOHN LENNON . Not only were these four young singers from Britain the Great Music Group but each member went on to there own very good music career after the group disbanded. BACKGROUND: George was considered the Lead Guitar Player for The Beatles who played a regular guitar, an electric guitar and a slide guitar at different...

George has Passed but His Music has Not

Pros:
It's George Harrison's finest.

Cons:
Doesn't include "All Things Must Pass"

I have to let you know that although, I am only now reviewing this album, I am not one of those people who ran out and bought it just because the guy is dead. This CD has been a part of my collection for awhile. I chose to write about it now, because it is a record of the best stuff Harrison ever did, and if you don't know a lot about George Harrison, but want to now, this is a good CD to start with. The Best of George Harrison covers his songs with the Beatles, as well as in his solo career. The first 6 or 7 tracks are Beatles tunes, the best of which is "Something". This is a song that...

MUCH MORE than "just a Beatle"

Pros:
the music and vocals

Cons:
nothing to mention

This truly isn't a review as much as a remembrance. George Harrison was one of the most amazing musicians to ever grace the earth. He was a passionate human with a great gift that he shared with anyone who ever listened to his music whether it be a Beatles song or his solo albums. I personally prefer his own music that he made on his own without being overshadowed. Genuises like him don't come around often and this album shows that. Every song on here is priceless. I chose this album to review with this message because the best of George Harrison is the best there is. What other songwriter...
